Auggie is going to school! But how does he feel or think about the current position that he is in? I think he’s feeling a little uncomfortable because it’s kind of forced. What evidence do I have to back it up? Constant times he doesn’t want to make contact with anybody. Probably he doesn’t want the other people to make fun of him. The students Jack, Julian and Charlotte don’t make that much proper contact with August either. Auggie could get the idea that they don’t like him and can get quite uncomfortable around them.
For the crying and laughing feeling, probably his discomfort took the best off him and felt like crying. But, he laughs. I have two ideas of what is going with him. One is that he decides to hide the fact he feels like crying, so he laughs (nervously) like nothing ABSOLUTELY happened. For example he ‘laughs’ away his problem.
My second assumption is that August is laughing at himself. For instance the problem is so sad but it turns funny that you just CAN’T stop laughing. My experience is once I fell down and I started crying, yet I was laughing. “I feel sad but it’s so funny!” I mean, best way to get rid of pain and sadness is doing the opposite, right?
I think that Auggie is trying to hide his feeling, he really felt sad, but tried to feel better so he tried thinking of funny/happy memory. Maybe he was thinking of Mr. Tushman AND Ms. Butt should go on a date or another funny memory that made him laugh even though he his upset.
When Auggie is introduced to Mr. Tushman and everyone else, I think he feels very nervous/shy because he’s scared and worried about what people will think about his face and how he looks, and also because he’s meeting new people.
Auggie’s Laugh/Cry Feeling (Why)
I think that when Jack stared at Auggie and Aggie stared back, Auggie was having a bad day. When Auggie stared back he thought “I think Jack might become a good friend of mine” because Jack was being nice to Auggie and was standing up to Julian when Julian was bullying Auggie. So instead of crying, Auggie laughed.

Auggie is feeling like he is going to cry but laughing at the same time because one of his friend named Julian ask about his face why it was like that then after that he ask “did you get in a fire accident”? Then after that he started laughing because Jack Will smiled at him which made Auggie smile back to him. I think that is why I think he is having that feeling. Or he laugh because someone told him a joke about Mr.Toshman and Miss.Butt.
Auggie’s feeling about school is, I think he feels mad/happy because he is mad at his mom for signing him for a private school and Auggie doesn’t want to let people see his face because its kind of ugly(trying not to bet rude) and he feels happy because he make this new friend named Jack Will and he feels a little beat nervous because he never went to school. I think he will have a good time at his new school because he has a new friend. I wonder what will happened next to the story.
I think Auggie is feeling very upset and disappointed when jack will gave Auggie sort of like a death stare, Auggie felt a laugh cry emotion. That laugh cry emotion might feel like he is very sad and upset I have felt that laugh cry emotion before. It sort of feels like you are this big angry volcano then you see something
That reminds you about a funny moment that you can’t hold in.
That feeling he feels might make him very upset of his new school. Julian was being a big fat jerk when he asked Auggie about his face. At that moment Auggie felt very lonely and he might have also felt that laugh/Cry emotion again.
I think August was trying to hide his feelings. He is having some mixed feelings in that moment; well it happens to everyone so I get it, Julian was being a jerky so that is what made Auggie sad, and at the fact they were not looking at him. Maybe Auggie thought that they were nice because Mr. Tuchman said they were. Maybe he smiled of Ms. Butt and Mr. Tuchman on a date or, that Jack Will was looking at him and it made him smile. Julian made him sad by asking mean questions he was curious but too curious so he asked a question that hurt August’s feelings and made him have a teary emotion. That is what I think of Auggie’s laugh/cry feeling.
I think that Auggie must be feeling kind of nervous and hesitant about going to his new school because he has been home schooled his entire life. Regardless, if Auggie had entered a public or private school, there would be a lot of mishaps and delays because of all of his surgeries. Based on what we read so far, I think that Auggie has some mixed feelings about going to Beecher Prep because I don’t think that Auggie really cares if people would make fun of him by how he looks that much, also because I think that Auggie cares more about how he does in school and his pursuits rather that the opinions of others towards him.
I think that Auggie’s laugh and cry feeling was because of what someone had said, which made him a little sad because from what we’ve read so far, Auggie seems a bit sensitive when it comes to people disrespecting him. Then when Auggie heard what another boy had said , I think that he sort of laughed because what he said was peculiarly funny compared to what they boy that made Auggie cry said.
I think she is scared and kind of shy because she does not have much experience about going to school she also do not have any true friends and only knows 3 people in the school so far Jack, Julian and Charlotte. Julian was not really nice to Aggie, he ask Aggie what was with his face which I thought was not really nice because he thought he was probably in a fire. Julian was also standing in front of him every time he was trying to look inside. I also think he has the laugh and sad feeling because he is sad but happy that he hasn’t started school and probably has mix feelings.
