Weaving + The Recent YPC

Recently, we went to our very last Young People’s Concert and this group of drummers called “Sam2” performed. But they weren’t any ordinary drummers, they made they’re own instruments and drums out of recycled materials and unwanted junk. It’s called scrap instruments.

In our class, our art and H.A.C.E. project is weaving. It relates to “Sam2” because we are weaving with natural material’s and unwanted invasive plants. We are using old willow tree branches and ivy fro binding and tying it together.

These projects are both very interesting and they actually relate to each other in quite a few ways. “Sam2” uses recycled materials and in a way we are too. “Sam2” are very amazing at what they do, and in my opinion so are the people in our class. I know “Sam2” have been doing they’re project so much longer than our class has, but we are both good with what we are doing.

“Sam2” told us that they’ve all been drumming since they were younger. Now that we know that they’ve all been drumming for a while, it makes some of us more intrigued in other activities like the weaving because we are doing something so little now, and then it can turn into something amazing.

weaving + ypc

What’s similar between “Sam2” and our weaving project is we all use unique items. “Sam2” would use scrap pieces of metal, wood, and pipes to make musical instruments. As for us we use ivy and willow to make beautiful pieces that can be used as decorations. What’s also similar is that we get to make them ourselves, people would go out and buy their drums but “Sam2” used their imagination and made unique musical instruments that sound cool also.

Both of the projects use stuff you can find outside. You  can pick ivy and willow and lots of things to weave in your garden or while your walking outside. You can see scrap material that no one wants anymore and you can make something that you can have lots of fun with. Overall our weaving project and “Sam2” have alloy of things in common.

Weaving and YPC

    1.  The sam2YPC concert, they use scrapped items from junk-yards , peoples houses, old tin cans, etc…. to make instruments. And they’re similar to weaving because for e.g. a shoe is made out of rubber instead of using rubber we can use willow which is more effective and environment.

2. The weaving project is a bit challenging because u have to bind willow together without snapping or falling a part to, but when we got the ivy it helped a bit and its a great binding tool to :D-(–=

Weaving and the YPC

The similarities between our weaving project and “Sam2” are that we both reuse items that people just throw away and think are useless. “Sam 2” used a lot of scrap metal to build drums/instruments. They used something that was so called “junk”, and made it have another purpose. They brought the item back to life! For out project we used willow and green ivy to basically make anything we wanted to, but only with those two items. We had to be creative and all of us ended up making something that was really unique and different . we reused “branches”, to make a cool weaving project. For both “Sam2” and our project, we both ended up making something really cool out of unwanted items. I never would have thought about using scrap metal to make instruments or use “branches” to make art.

Weaving and the YPC

first off both of these projects contain some sort of recycling  for example  the Sam 2 project  takes unwanted things like scrap metals ,pipes ,plastics et c ,in our weaving project we also recycling unwanted plants for example ivy willow ,weeds et c. The unique thing about this two project is that no one in the world  thought that plants or metal could be turned into some sort of art ,you can make just about anything with these items .Also this two project  both share one unique value  and that value is that nothing in this world is garbage

Sam2 and Weaving

A similarity I see between our weaving project and “Sam2” is that we both use materials that are unwanted. They (Sam2) uses scrap pieces of metal and things people don’t want and have thrown out. Whereas we (Div2) are using natural materials such as fallen willow and and ivy which we have weeded from a garden that the ivy was invading. We both have created something unique and interesting. An example of that is the “drums” Sam2 made. They even named the drums. Another example or examples is everybody’s weaving projects which is both unique and interesting and either a mix of willow and ivy or one of those materials alone. Sam2 and Div 2 are both helping the environment by reusing unwanted materials.

Weaving and the Y.P.C

What do you think the Sam2 concert and our weaving project have in common? Well, they both come from unwanted materials! Sam2 used unwanted parts from the dump. They used those parts to make instruments! When we weaved we used unwanted plants. These plants are called ” invasive species “. An invasive invasive species is is a plant that came from another country and through time, it begins to grow somewhere else. An example of an invasive species is ivy, we used ivy to bind the willow together. We don’t want these plants because they kill other plants that we need. Another thing they have in common is that they both use these materials to make something new and useful! Sam2 made some great sounding instruments, one was made only from rubber! With weaving you can make all sorts of creations! From baskets to hat you can make all sorts of things, big or small.

What I Like/Dislike About Weaving

A thing I like about weaving (and I’m going to be honest here) is that it wastes the first twenty or thirty minutes of the day. By waste I don’t mean weaving is a total waste effort in making something cool. I mean that we have 20 minutes gone from the day and no work (like language arts) in that time period. To me, I’d rather spend the first half and hour of the day weaving then jumping straight into language arts. Why? Well, I’m usually very tired in the morning and I’d just rather not have to get working right away. So that’s what I like about weaving.

What I dislike is that we have to clean up off the ground. I’d rather spare myself from the cleanup. That’s just me, I hate cleaning up. Another thing I dislike is the challenges you’re facing when weaving. Like when the ivy is dried up and it breaks. When I don’t have a good strong piece and it breaks my whole creation and I have to start over, knowing it won’t look the same and as cool. Another challenge I am constantly facing is that the ivy is not that thick and it just doesn’t tie properly. Something I absolutely hate is the fact that when I try making something it just undoes itself. I guess maybe that’s my fault for tying properly but it’s annoying.

Overall weaving is okay because it wakes me up slowly and it’s easier for me to focus as the day goes on.

What iam liking about weaving

The thing I am really liking about weaving is that the fact that no one can judge you on what you  are weaving  there is no right or wrong ,you can make just about anything with these  marvellous plants  for example you can make a rainbow ,trumpet ,triangle, circles the line goes on forever .I also really like how we are using mother natures invasive plants in a way we are helping our community  and clearing out Shona’s garden  . I am really having trouble deciding what to make every morning.I learned that you can make just about anything thing with your plants thanks to Sharon callas .

What i’m liking about weaving!

The thing i’m liking about weaving and enjoying  is that you just try to work with it and nobody judges in your work because anything you make is a piece of art! Weaving gives the plant like Canadian ivy that is not suppose to be in this certain place then a weaver goes to that place and get those ivy’s and bind the art pieces to connect to each other. You could make all sort of things, for example a basket, hat, and shoe’s. When you weave you could reuse the plants that are not suppose to be in that place and use it for a wonderful piece of art. Anybody could weave when they want to just get the materials from stores or in your own garden, there is tons of places where you could get these materials. JUST think about those art pieces that we can  make and have fun. That’s why i like weaving and that’s why i enjoy it!
