Day: 19 March 2015

How I feel about weaving.

I like easing into the day and not having to start math as soon as I walk in the room.  So weaving lets me start to think about my day a little more. But most of the time my weaving turns out differently than I would have liked. But that is just my perfectionist side coming out. The only things that annoys me is that, the willow will break or the ivy gets to dry. Which doesn’t help when I am using it for binder. I think seeing all of our pieces put together will be worth the while in the end. And I would much rather be doing this than painting or drawing. So overall I don’t mind weaving and I think its a good way to start off the day.

Weaving + The Y.P.C SAM2

When you think about weaving and SAM2 what do you think? Well i think that they have a connection, for example reusing. All sort of people all around the world reuses materials, like SAM2 and weaving. For weaving you reuse some unwanted plants in someone’s garden and get those unwanted plants and weave with them and make a wonderful piece of art, SAM2 reuses all sort of materials for example a piece of metal, a tube that attaches to a boat, and a thrown away wood planks. SAM2 makes all sort of materials using reusable stuff and that was Waving + SAM2 thinking.

What I’m Liking About Weaving!

The weaving project we are doing is actually pretty fun. I never expected it to be like this. When we weave every morning and sometimes in our free time, it’s really fun because we get to talk, and listen to Ms.Lanaway read some books, its like a big circle of art and socializing.

Weaving is also really fun because the materials that we are using are easier and more interesting because they are tree branches and invasive plants. It’s more intriguing if we get to use stuff like that.

The part in weaving that I find interesting is that so many people in our class have never heard of weaving and never done it before and now we are all pretty good at it. We’ve even created something cool of our own. It’s also amazing that there are so many people who’ve done amazing projects and it’s just fantastic.

A part in our weaving project that I don’t like is how some of us are constantly having to change our plans on what we’re creating because the willow is either too dry or the ivy is ripping when we bind it and (Ugh the worst part) it falls apart. We are constantly having these bumps in the road and it’s very frustrating but we always find a different way to make our plan work or we change our plan and continue on.

Lastly, the hardest part is bending the willow. We always have to bend the willow before we do anything with it because if we don’t it’ll break. It’s just kind of hard.

What was similar from the Young peoples concert and our weaving project

What was similar between the y pc and our weaving

What was similar between our weaving project and the young peoples concert Is that we both used a lot of extra plants on our weaving and they used extra parts from construction yards boats and other stuff And It took a lot of time for them and us to finish the whole thing and it will all go to use in some sort of gallery But they performed to us and they mighty even put theirs into a gallery when they are done doing performances for their band and that they used a lot of group work in their drums xylophones and other stuff and that when they looked for the scraps it maybe like when we looked for the plants at the garden for our projects too and maybe we can bring It out and use it like a lot of the other performers one day just to have fun and teach the more younger people at future young peoples concert.

What i’m liking about weaving

When weaving I simply enjoy relaxing a making something. a lot of the time i dont know what im making, but is still enjoy relaxing. I usually come to school still a bit tired, and weaving is a great way to ease into the day. One difficulty i have a lot is binding the willow together with the ivy, as i have hard time keeping the two pieces of willow in place while i tie the ivy. I also have a hard time keeping the ivy in place, as it comes loose a lot.

All in all, i enjoy weaving, even though i have a hard time with some things.

Weaving and the YPC

Similarities from our latest YPC performed by SAM2 and our weaving project were that SAM2 made cool instruments with materials that were going to the dump, and stuff that people weren’t using anymore. Also they used materials that no one ever thought of it as other things like drums, xylophones. This is similar to our weaving project because we used materials(willow branch, green ivy) that people weren’t really interested in and we made it into something very unique.

Scrap Arts Music made their instruments out of junk that they found in the dump and made it into a real instrument. They made over eighteen instruments. But it took them few months to build one drum. Some instruments were very unique because it wasn’t something we’d see or hear in a band, for examples like annoyophone which is an instrument that makes sound with balloons and junks on a stick which is like the title just junks on a stick.  In our weaving project  we used green ivy and willow branches to make wreaths, hangers, coil shaped circles and just other shapes. Both of this cool and unique projects we could literally make it into whatever we anted like the SAM2 made instruments out of the most random things and so did our weaving project. Sometimes I just let my hand do the work and made something very cool. Overall I really enjoyed watching the SAM2 perform and I really enjoyed weaving in the morning!

What I’m liking about weaving

I enjoy having a few minutes every day  just weaving, because it’s really relaxing. I’m not a real morning person, so doing something relaxing, really gets me started and ready to go for the day. I look forward to it, because it slowly gets my brain working and ready for the next subject. I also like how we can make anything we wanted to. It’s nice to see all the different and unique stuff we all made. What I don’t really like is that we don’t get enough time to weave. It takes awhile for everyone to get settled and actually weaving, so we end up with only 10 minutes of weaving. I would rather have one long portion of the day just weaving, than a lot of really short bursts. I really enjoy weaving and it’s a nice art project to work on.

Weaving Reflection

I thought our weaving project was hard. I did not like it that much.

First, it was hard for me to tie the knots because the ivy kept cracking whenever I tried. I also thought it was boring. Everything  I tried to make looked weird. The plants smelled like green beans. Those are the things I did not like.

What I did like I guess was that it cut Mixers and L.A. I also learned about plants and knots. I also saw what you could make with these plants. Without weaving these plants would not have that much use.

In conclusion, as I said I don’t like it that much. It is a good use of these plants though.

What do you like about weaving

When we started weaving I didn’t really know much, but as we kept going I started to like it and I learned a lot.

Through the weaving project I learned that you can make a beautiful artwork with just using materials from nature. We made something very unique just using willow branches and green ivy. We didn’t use materials we would normally use in art class, like paint, and paper. I never really thought of using plants (besides flowers) to make an art piece.

In my opinion I enjoyed weaving more than what we did at the beginning of the year which was painting and working with colors and shapes. The reason why I like weaving better than the Peter Max artwork is that we didn’t have any rules on how our piece should look like, unlike Peter Max painting where we could only choose two colors and think about how the shapes should be and the meaning behind our piece. In my opinion I like doing/making things where I actually get to do whatever we want and not having to consider about the connection you have with your work.

But there were some challenging parts about weaving. Because we had to use natural resources it didn’t look pretty or sometimes I couldn’t make it into the shape I wanted to. Also there were times when the green ivy won’t stay in the place I wanted it to be, so sometimes I wanted to use glue gun and glue the pieces together, instead of binding it with willow or ivy. But I found that the messiness completed the look in the end.

Overall I really enjoyed weaving and how we used stuff from nature and not from a factory!

weaving

What are you enjoying about weaving?
What I enjoy I about weaving is that you can make anything you want. I like that we can be creative in our own way. I like the ivy that we use beacause its bendable  and easy to hold things in place.

What are you finding challenging about weaving?                                                        I think the challenging part is the spirals because you have to tie knot after knot after knot. Sometimes they also get tangled up.
