The Giver Dead or (Alive)

What I first thought was the sled and the house was a memory. But how could Gabe be there on the sled with Jonas? And he heard music, and he never heard music before. But the dead team say it’s all a hallucination because of the berry’s that Jonas ate. But how is it a hallucination if Jonas can feel the wind when going down on the sled downhill? Plus, how is he sliding fast downhill on the sled fast? Therefore, it’s not a hallucination. And Jonas is in front of the house. I think he just got up and walked to the house and lived.

The Giver Dead or Alive?

I assume Jonas to be alive because, at the end of the last chapter Jonas felt like he was losing all consciousness but he forced his eyes open. The reason why Jonas forced his eyes open was because, on page 173 it stated that Jonas no longer cared about himself he only cred for Gabriel and that Gabriel was is responsibility.

Another reason why I think Jonas is alive is because, when The Giver gave Jonas a memory of snow and ridding on the sled over hills, Gabriel was not with him. On page 82-83 Jonas received the memory twice, the first time Jonas received the memory his eyes were closed, the second time he went on the sled The Giver told him to look around him, everywhere, and still Gabriel wasn’t there. if Gabriel were there, Jonas would of definitely noticed it. After they both came down the sled Jonas saw lights and people celebrating love.

I also assume Jonas is alive because, when he and Gabriel and he got to the bottom of the hill they heard something Jonas thought  was music. Jonas never received the memory of music because, on page 157 The Giver wanted to give Jonas the memory but Jonas refused because it was his best memory and he wanted The Giver to keep it. Jonas has the capacity to see beyond but, not the capacity to hear beyond, so that’s why he thought it was just an echo when he heard it.

When Jonas fell off his bike he scrapped his knee and he felt pain. On page 169 it mentioned that Jonas was alert at night, and how they heard the planes flying really low, knowing that they were definitely searcher planes. [What does this tell you? – Ms. L]

The giver dead or alive

I think Jonas is dead because the berries that he ate could have been poisons and the raw fish that he ate might have affected him in some way because the raw fish was not clean or cooked it was raw. Those are all the ways he could have died by catching a disease by eating stuff.

Some other ways he could have died are hypothermia. The only thing he was wearing were a tunic, pants, and a shirt. He was not prepared for such extreme weather like snow so he could have gotten hyperthermia.

And another way he could have died is from too much pain. Because he had a scraped knee, a twisted ankle, and not enough sleep. All of this combined could lead to fatal consequences like the scrapped knee could cause some sort of diseases and the twisted ankle make it impossible to travel and not enough sleep can cause you to faint and travel less because he is to tired. And those are all the reasons he could have died.

Now it’s time for some common sense: what are the chances of him climbing a hill and finding a sled in the exact same place as in the memory? and wouldn’t the sled be buried because of the snow? What are the chances of that? I think he is hallucinating the whole thing.

The Giver – Jonas (Dead or Alive)

Jonas and Gabriel will live because I think he will get to the house and get warm, as in the memory. I believe the owners will give him love and care for Jonas and Gabriel and also give Jonas and Gabriel some food. I believe this because in the memory they showed love and maybe they will show him and Gabriel love too. Jonas and Gabriel might ask them if they could help them with their journey to get the memories back to the community so maybe the owners will provide Jonas with some warm clothes and some food. Also, I believe Jonas will live because I think he will keep trying to survive because he loves Gabriel so much. He will keep on going so Gabriel will live.

The Giver, Dead or Alive?

I believe that Jonas is alive my strongest statement is that, why would Jonas bring Gabriel with him after all he went through starvation, cold, wet, etc. it said on page 176 that Jonas no longer cared about himself but he cared about Gabriel .when Jonas got up to the hill on page 179 everything that happened, appended in the memory that the giver gave Jonas but the only thing that wasn’t there was Gabriel so how could they be dead. Also the giver must have known what elsewhere was like the past receiver must of given him a memory of elsewhere and on page 156 the giver told Jonas that he loved him like he loved rosemary so how could he sent him to heaven. Dying was not the only way to release all the memory’s crossing elsewhere would be another way to release all the memories, if he was going to elsewhere “heaven” why wouldn’t the giver  give all the memories to Jonas it would make more sense. On page 178 it said “his heart surge with hope” if he was dead how could his heart be still beating

In conclusion I believe Jonas is alive

DEAD OR ALIVE

I think Jonas and Gabriel are dead because: when Jonas climbed the mountain, he was in pain because he fell off his bike and he scrapped his knee and twisted his ankle. Maybe when he fell of his bike he might of gotten dirt into the scab and got infected since he didn’t clean it. And that could’ve gotten into blood stream and gotten into the heart that could’ve made him sick. Jonas and Gabriel also had water from a lake, and who knew that the water was clean? It could’ve been dirt and infected with bacteria and germs.

When Jonas and Gabe reached the top of the mountain, how could a sled, the exact same one from the memory The Giver gave him, just appear out of nowhere, and exactly in the spot he needed it? It’s like a coincidence! Plus, wouldn’t it be covered in snow and or blown away?! It’s nearly impossible!
