Jonas was at elderly bathing area he had the stirring about Fiona.

And he had to have the pill because stirrings give you a sense of leader ship.

They don’t want people to be leaders they want them to be obeying the rules and not questioning the rules for the community.

So that’s why they need to take this pill to stop there sense of power or leader ship.

I think the stirrings are like your first crush, the first girl or boy you actually like. But I think the community people give you pills to prevent stirrings, because, maybe in the future you’re not allowed to pick your spouse. They don’t want you to have feelings for someone, or else you may not love the person they give you. I’m really interested to keep reading. I want to know the true meanings of stirrings. It’s crazy how much these people want to make this a perfect utopian society. It’s like everything needs to be exact and in order. I definitely wouldn’t want to live there!

Hi everyone! These are some “ah-ha” moments that I had reading when reading The Giver, Chapter 5. I found out that the stirrings can be good for Jonas, but bad for the community. Stirrings could be connected to their birthmother and maybe even their future or past! I learned that Jonas is from a strict community where they want to avoid the “disease” (stirrings), so they give everyone pills. Stirrings could get worse later in life if not taken the pills. I think that Jonas likes the stirrings, so he might not want to take the pills.

This book has intrigued me in so many ways.

I think the stirrings are like dreams and the future stuff that might  happen.They might cause bad dreams and desices. They don’t want stirrings because they don’t want them to have any kids and they can’t have much emotion. Stirrings can’t be allowed in the community so they take a pill once they become twelves, so they take a pill for the stirrings.

I think that the community is really strict and they do not want the people to have feelings, caused by stirrings. My partner said they might have babies. But I do not agree with him because thy come from birthmothers make the babies in the community. During the discussion, hearing others ideas made me think of things I had not thought of, like the reasons for them wanting to take pills.
