New Artificial Heart – will beat for 230 million heartbeats!
The artificial heart (designed by a French Company – Carmat) resembles a human heart. The heart weighs 900 grams and has two ventricles made with sterile chemically treated calf tissue. The tissue helps to prevent blood clots. The heart has a motorized pump that moves the blood through the device. The heart is powered by wearable lithium ion batteries. Carmat claims that the heart will last for five years or 230 million heartbeats.
