Remembrance Day Week

Dear Families,

I am sorry for the late post, the weekend got away from me.

This week we are focusing our learning on Remembrance Day and the meaning of Peace. We are reading books, brainstorming ideas and have done several art projects. We have made tissue poppies with our buddies and used oil pastels to draw poppies. On Thursday we are participating in the school wide Assembly. We have been practicing for the moment of silence and learning a new song.

Click HERE to listen to the song.

Here are the words:

Grow, grow, grow

Grow little poppy grow

On the field of war

Grow little poppy grow.

Peace, peace, peace,

Ring the bells for peace

Poppies show we remember

Those who died for peace.

Important Dates:
Friday November 11 – Remembrance Day No School

Friday November 18 – PAC Popcorn Day

Friday November 25 – PRO D Day No School for Students

We have noticed a lot of colds and coughs around the school right now. Thank you so much for keeping your child home when they are sick to keep us all safe and healthy.

Also please remember that we go outside everyday no matter what the weather. Please make sure to send a warm jacket, boots gloves and a hat with your child. Also make sure to send a change of clothes in case your child needs to change.

Rainy Friday

Hello Families,

Happy Rainy Friday. It feels like forever since we last got rain and we definitely need it now.

This week we have been learning about our brains and how we learn. We have learned that we need lots of healthy food, lots of sleep and lots of outside play to keep our brains happy and learning. We have also met two new puppet friends: Puppy and Snail. They will be helping us learn about emotions, feelings, empathy and kindness over the next few months. When we met Snail we became very interested in learning about real snails so we watched this video:

On Wednesday, October 26th we will be having our annual Morley Pumpkin Patch in the courtyard outside our classroom. Please bring a sturdy bag to carry your pumpkin in.  Oct. 26th is also photo retake day if you want your child to get their photo redone.

Monday October 31 – Halloween. The costume parade and assembly will happen after recess. Your child is welcome to wear their costume to school. Please do not send any weapons and masks need to be worn off their face. Please also send a change of clothes as students often wish to change part way through the day. I also ask that you do not send candy or treats to share as we have many food restrictions/allergies in the classroom.

November 11  – Remembrance Day No School

Have a lovely weekend

October

Dear Families,

Wow, what beautiful weather we have been having this month. It is hard to believe it is the middle of October already. We have been enjoying the sunshine, looking at the trees as they change colours and talking about fall.  This week we will be finishing up our name study. We only have two more names to learn about and then we will be moving on to looking closely at the alphabet. We have been practicing being focused, calm and quiet while working so that we can do our best work and I have introduced more structured literacy and numeracy centres this week.

Important Dates

Friday October 21 – No School – Professional Day

Wednesday October 26 – Photo Retakes

Monday October 31 – Halloween (More information to come)
