As mathematicians we have been exploring the stories that live in shapes. Through investigating the shapes that live in our classroom, we discovered that shapes are all around us! Through different activities we have been exploring how we can combine shapes to make new shapes and have been working towards discovering attributes of 2D and 3D shapes.
As authors and illustrators, we have continued to explore the stories that live in different materials. This week we began exploring how pictures can tell a story. Together, we read a wordless picture books and painted our own pictures that shared our stories. We had a chance to share the stories we created with our classmates, and will capture our stories next week.
As readers, we have been practicing picking just right books. When picking a just right book students choose their own books to read. When choosing their books, they ask themselves:
Why do I want to read this book?
Does it interest me?
Do I understand it?
Do I know most of the words?
As artists we didleaf rubbing this week. Together, we read a book that walked us through the steps to create a leaf rubbing. We took advantage of the nice weather and did our artwork outside!
As citizens, we have continued discuss and work towards identifying emotions in ourselves and others. We have been exploring different strategies that we can use to help us to feel calm. We have been using our Mood Meter to share how we are feeling each day. Soon, we will be creating our own Mood Meters to bring home to use and share with our families. More information to come!
As we continue to build our feeling vocabulary, we have also started to develop our classroom charter, exploring the ways that we would like to feel in our classroom. Over the next couple of weeks, we will continue to build our charter, which will be used to guide us as we interact with one another in our classroom.
We have also been exploring the question what are our stories?
What are you grateful for?
This week we discussed what fills our heart with happiness and what we are grateful for in our lives. We started recording some of our ideas on our grateful pumpkin, and will continue to add to it over the next few weeks.
Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend!
