Dear parents. These beginning readers are designed to help your child develop their sight word recognition and to build confidence while reading. Take your time going through these stories with your child. You can create flashcards with the words that repeat, and have discussions with them following the frames below.

The link above should take you to a story called At the Market. Please listen to me read the story and follow along. Next complete the sentence “I can see the _________”. You can write down your sentence or a few different sentences on a piece of paper, or you can send them to Ms. Guise via email. You might also draw a picture of the things you can see. They do not need to be things that are at a market. They will probably be things in your house.

Tell someone you live with about something that you like to do. If you are able, please write down an ending to the sentence and write it on a sheet of paper, or email your sentences to Ms. Guise.

This story is called Funny Things. Please listen to me read and follow along if you can. Did you guess that it was a clown before the end of the story? What are some funny things that a clown might do? Tell a person in your house about it. See if you can read the story again with the volume off. Were there some words that you know or remember?

This story is called Making Soup. Have you ever tried to make soup? I haven’t, but there are some dishes we like to make as a family. See if there is something that you can do to help make food the next time that your family eats. Could you wipe or set the table? Could you help stir things or put things in the pot?
