Hello!

Please remember that for English language development it is important to read, write and speak in English each day.  If you would like to access RazKids for books that you can read and that can be read to you in English please let me know and I will happily set up an account for you.  There are also many books available at “Epic Books” online.  If you need help with any of the written assignments given to you in class please let me know either on the channel on your class TEAMS or via email.  There are also some other activities below that you may wish to complete instead of other written assignments given by your teacher if the class work is confusing or too challenging to complete at this time.  For oral language development you can talk to a friend on the phone in English or you could try playing one of the games outlined in the oral language section of this blog.

Alternate writing assignments:

Here are some writing lessons designed to work on paragraph writing.  Please only complete if you are doing them instead of your class assignments.  If you need any help with your written work that you are already doing in class I am happy to help through the channel on your TEAM or you can email me directly at Jocelyn.Guise@burnabyschools.ca

Now that you have written some paragraphs, lets do some procedural writing:

Your First Job

Procedural writing is when you write down the steps that you need to take to complete a task.  For example, if I were writing the steps to creating a Mother’s Day card, it might look something like this:

How to Make a Mother’s Day Card

  1. Gather the equipment that you will need to create a card: paper, colored pencils or felts, and a pencil.
  2. Think about your mom. What does she like?  What are some of the things that she does to help you.
  3. Fold your paper in half. Keep it folded.  Be sure that the crease is to your left.  Write the words “Happy Mother’s Day!” on the front of the card.  Draw and color a picture that your mom would like on the front of the card.
  4. Open the paper so that you see the blank inside part of the card. Write the words “Dear Mom,” at the top of the page on the right-hand side of the crease.  Beneath those words write a few sentences to tell some of the things that you appreciate about your mom, and some of the reasons that she is special to you.  At the bottom write “Love Your Name”
  5. On Mother’s Day give this card to your mom.

*Please see if you can follow the steps above to create a card for your mom, or for someone who takes care of you.

Your Second Job

Ask whoever’s job it is in your house how to do the laundry.  Pay close attention to all the steps.  Do the laundry yourself.  See if you can write down at least 4 steps to explain how to do the laundry.  Remember to break down the steps into the most detail that you can.

Your Third Job

Choose a different household task that is done on a regular basis in your home.  Record all the steps and put a title on top of your page.

If you have completed these assignments please email them to Ms. Guise at Jocelyn.Guise@burnabyschools.ca
