November Love of Snow and Books!

| Comments Off on November Love of Snow and Books!

We are going to be starting December with snow on the ground.  What fun Division 10 had today with sun and snow.

We also watched the Robins and our Garden Squirrel enjoy our red berry tree in the Clinton garden.  It helps continue our journey our classroom inquiry, “What Stories Do The Seasons Share With Us?”

We also want to thank Ms. Hossack for our new book bags.  “I Love Books” is exactly what we say when we thank Ms. Hossack for the opportunity to listen to some amazing stories and take out some interesting books. It is hoped that books will be kept safe to and from school when housed in the book bags.  Please remember to have library books return to school each Tuesday.

During Term 1, we have been building our reading stamina in class.  Students are able to now independently read for 15 minutes as we work toward 20 minutes. In the new year, students in Division 10 will be encouraged to participate in daily reading stamina activities at home.

As we say with our Daily 5 Reading, “Everyday is a Reading Day!”

Pacific North West and Canadian Vibes!

| Comments Off on Pacific North West and Canadian Vibes!

We are ending November off with some more stories of the season shared through the beauty of the Cedar Tree; the tree of life for the First Nations of the Pacific North West Coast.

Students have connected to the tree through stories such as Stand Like A Cedar by Nicola Campbell.  They have linked their ideas about the Cedar Tree through connections to story and their personal experiences.  They made text to text, text to self and text to world connections.  A linking chain will continue to grow as the Autumn season of learning continues.

The creative process was experienced when students made use of Cedar boughs and branches for visual art. Students painted with the branches, painted on the branches and added the branches to their art pieces.  They created artist statements that shared their appreciation for the Cedar Tree.

Team Canada then became a focus for division 10 with much cheering and support going toward the Canadian players.  Team Canada has not participated in the World Cup in 36 years so a moment in history was shared amongst the students in the classroom.  Despite the loss, there was pride.  Claire shared, “they may not have won the game but they won in our hearts.”  It was an exciting game and we look forward to games 2 and 3.   Go Canada Go!

We Are TWINNING!

| Comments Off on We Are TWINNING!

Clinton Spirit Day was a great success thanks to the Leadership Team encouraging us to find friendship through being Twins; and for some of us, Triplets.  We have been sharing thoughts about TEAMWORK and FRIENDSHIP these past few weeks and this was a wonderful way to create some new partnerships.

Here is a look at our Twinning Time!

We also found friendship to be a main theme for Charlotte’s Web.  We finished the novel and enjoyed a movie afternoon on our Twin Spirit Day to capture the full essence of friendship and partnership.

Next week, the World Cup of Soccer/Football will begin and we have considered some ways that our Team Canada can work toward a positive teamwork effort to score a GOOOOAL!  We gained insight and inspiration from the book titled, GOAL!

October Is Coming To A Close!

| Comments Off on October Is Coming To A Close!

What a spooktacular month we have had.  Division 10 has been very busy spinning their thoughts into wonderful webs of art, design, friendship and learning.

They used permanent markers and water colour paint to create some amazing webs of their own that any spider would be proud to hang from.

They also used permanent marker and the colours red and black to draw their own cartoon spider.

Charlotte’s Web gave them opportunities to think about friendship and they added kind and caring words to a friendship web describing the characteristics of a good friend.

Students are flying across the world with Math Takes Flight.  That is only one small piece of the Math Curriculum. We have many other math experiences such as making Pumpkin Glyphs and trying out Pumpkin Symmetry. Math is Everywhere and Math Is Fun!

Diwali brought the light and we used oil on felt markers to create Diwali stain glass window decorations.  The light was also shining when we created Heart Maps acknowledging our own personal identities.  Student shadow faces, with the attached hearts, hang in our classroom window .

We also had one of our first Art Starts Performances of the year.  Dumpsta Dragons performed and we have added their link to the blog so you can take a look at some of the performance we were part of.

We are looking forward to a peaceful November once our Halloween festivities come to an end on Monday.  Stay Tuned for more Division 10 posts!

Pumpkin Passion!

What an amazing day we had at the Laity Pumpkin Patch.  The sun was shining and the farm was full of Autumn colours.  The link below will give you a snapshot of our field trip experience. Thank you Am, Christina and Camilla!

Prior to our pumpkin patch visit, we learned about the size of pumpkins, the colour of pumpkins and the number of seeds a pumpkin can have.  It turns out that the amount of seeds is based on the amount of time a pumpkin has been given to grow in the field.  It is not based on size.  The more months on the patch, the more lines on the pumpkin and the darker it can become.  The lines on the pumpkin indicate the lines of seeds inside.  The darker the pumpkin, the longer it has been on the vine.

Division 10 made some pumpkin art of their own titled, Pastel and Pen Pumpkins.  They created their own Pumpkin Patch with Pumpkin Possibilities!

In class, students have been working on Reading Stamina.  They are up to 10 minutes of independent reading.

They have also been experimenting with Sink and Float and have concluded that most items in nature, during the season of Autumn, float rather than sink.  This is just another story shared during our inquiry: What stories do the seasons share with us?

Just a reminder about Library Tuesday – please bring books back and use Book Bags!

We look forward to the upcoming weeks with opportunities to meet with our Buddy Class and enjoy some Spooktacular moments on Halloween Monday!

Happy Thanksgiving!

| Comments Off on Happy Thanksgiving!

Division 10 is so very appreciative and grateful.  Students considered all that they are thankful for and shared their thoughts with me.  We made a Thankful Tree!

Students are also ready to take on the Clinton Marathon of Hope, walking in the footsteps of Terry Fox while considering his courage and determination to make a difference in the lives of so many.  Check out the classroom window to see who they are running for.

With cranberries being part of the story of the season, we made some cranberry sauce today.  It was bubbling and jumping as it turned from solid berries to hot, steaming jelly.

We look forward to what Autumn shares with us next.  Until then, have a safe and joyful Thanksgiving with family and friends!

The changing of the seasons has brought a beautiful start to our October.  The warmth of the sun continues as the students of Division 10 shine as Clinton Stars in Room 15.

Welcome to our classroom Blog.  You may have received an email about this post.  You can unsubscribe at any time.  This platform is just another form of communication between your child and our daily, weekly, monthly experiences.  Students are often at the forefront of the blog posts, contributing ideas to each page.

At the top of the blog posts, there are pages to access with information on a variety of topics.  Down the sidebar are areas that students will make use of during laptop time and places that you can explore at home.

Student photos can and will be posted here once permission has been given. Moments of celebration, opportunities for learning and new classroom experiences will be shared from time to time.

Today students began to develop their reading stamina.  They began with silent reading for 1 minute today with  some specific guidelines to follow.  They will progress to 3 minutes tomorrow and by the end of the month, they should be ready to tackle 30 minutes of independent reading.

Students are also beginning to fly all over the map with their Math Takes Flight activities.  Before beginning a math flight, they tap into their math super hero powers and make sure that they have done a few cross-body actions to activate both sides of their brain.

The classroom inquiry, “What stories do the seasons share with us,” has sparked conversations related to leaves, apples, spiders and cranberries.  We hope to continue investigating and observing in order to get a sense of what Autumn is all about.

We have a classroom guest, Charlotte the Spider, and we are beginning to participate in some Float and Sink What Do You Think predictions and experiments.

We look forward to participating in the Terry Fox Walk/Run coming up as well as the Autumn Community Field Trip to the Laity Pumpkin Patch.

Thank you for joining us on our Blog Journey of 2022-2023.

Thank you to students and families for such a wonderful year for division 10.  Room 15 was full of joy, adventure, laughter and learning.

Have a beautiful, healthy and safe summer and as the students would comment when considering being safe, “Where a helmet!”

Here is a video montage of our latest experiences.  See you in September!
