Shape of The Week – Monday November 24th – Friday December 3rd

Hello English 12 – Ms. D’Angelo is back in the classroom.  For this week, I am going to post the next two weeks of what we are doing since it is connected.  Please note, Ms. Taneva’s last day at Central is Tuesday November 30th.  Please speak with her if you have missing assignments, as I will not be assessing any work that she has done with you.

MONDAY

  • Big Ideas
  • Class Read – Paul’s Case (See RR)
  • Paul’s Case Questions (H)

HW – Finish Paul’s Case questions and be ready to discuss them tomorrow.

TUESDAY

  • Hand back work from Ms. Taneva
  • Class discussion about Paul’s Case
  • Introduction to Pre-Reading 1920s project for The Great Gatsby (H). Please read over the handout and think about who you want to work with

WEDNESDAY

  • Library work period – Pre-Reading project for The Great Gatsby
    • Topics selected and research
  • Hand out books – Here is an online copy of the text – The Great Gatsby

HW – Read chapter 1 of  The Great Gatsby.  On the notecard provided (or a piece of paper). Write down two quotations you feel are worthy of further discussion.  Then for each one, explain why you think this is an important or significant quotation.  The passage could illumintate something about character, conflict, theme, or the writer’s craft.

1920s presentations will begin next Tuesday November 30th for groups 7,6,12,14,13  and finish on Wednesday December 1st for groups 2,5,8,9,10,11.  Please remember to include a printed works cited on the day of your presentation.

  • Class discussion of chapter 2 – fill out symbols and character log (H)

HW – Read chapters 3 and 4 for Friday and complete focus questions

WEDNESDAY

  • 1920s presentations – second groups to present
  • In class writing chapters 1 &2

FRIDAY

  • Class discussion of chapters 3 &4 (focus questions)
  • Seminar presentations begin on Monday.  See handout (H) (chapter 5 – to start)

HW – Read chapters 5&6 and complete the literature circles seminar discussion sheet
