We will continue practicing our questioning and inferring skills by observing the picture below. Please follow the prompts beneath the picture to help you make meaning of the picture. Make a comment on this blog post with your questions and inferences. I encourage you to comment on each other’s posts. Remember to provide evidence on your thoughts.
What questions do you have? (I wonder…)
What is going on in this picture? (I think… or Maybe…)
What do you see that makes you say that? (I think…. because…)
What more can you find?

Last week’s photo explained:
Employees at the Wilkin & Sons jam factory in Tiptree, England, had cameras out for a tour by Queen Elizabeth II. Her visit came as the company celebrated its 125th year. (October 13, 2010)

Planning sheet: Writing Power – If I Built a School
Please follow the regular steps in writing:
Plan
Write
Edit/Revise
Publish
Share
Today, I suggest you work on the publishing stage:
Create a good-copy of your work. This does not have to be typed out. How you publish your work is your choice.
Ideas:
- Type it up on the computer
- Create a book
- Create a comic
- Print neatly on paper
- Create a slideshow
- Make a skit — act it out with members of your family if possible.
- Make a video
- Create a Scratch video
c.) Math
Please continue your math program.
Khan Academy, IXL, worksheets, etc.
If you would like support/guidance on a math program, please contact me.
d.) Reading
Read for at least 20 mins.
Try Audible (free online) or Libby (access local public library audiobooks). I am currently using and loving Libby!
Review Ms. Ho’s library blog. There are a lot of great resources posted.
Extension Activities
e.) Genius Hour (optional)
Continue your Genius Hour project. Refer to yesterday’s post for more information.
Refer to this planning sheet: Genius Hour Planning Sheet
Work at your own pace!
Follow these steps:
Brainstorm – what topics interest you? Write down topics that interest you (e.g. birds, palm trees, global warming, Jupiter, etc…). Select one to focus on this week.
Question – What deep questions do you wish to explore on your topic? (e.g. how do birds fly?)
Research – How are you going to find answers to your questions? With limited variety of resources, it will likely be online or an interview with an “expert” on the topic (perhaps family/friends).
Present – How are you going to share your knowledge? Please come up with a a way to briefly present your project. This may be through a speech, slideshow, poster, poem, comic, video, song, etc.
Share – Practice your presentation and share — either to me, family/friends, to the class during Sharing Circle.
f.) Makers – Imaginary School (optional)
If you finish early and wish to extend this project, please create a visual of your imaginary school.
Examples of ways to present can include:
- Online image (through scratch/illustration software)
- Diorama/shoebox/cardboard display
- Drawing
- Map
Have a good day,

I think these people have tranquilized owls and super glued them to the bars. I think this because
there are way too many owls to keep in that small area.🦉🦉🦉🦉
Why is so many owls in the store or house?? What are they doing?? Why is there bars on the windows?? Why is the owls so big?
I think the people are owl caretakers. I think they are giving the owls a haircut
I think in the picture there are people sitting around maybe in there house🏠 and they own lots of owls 🦉 or maybe they are taking care of them. I wonder if people just give there own owl 🦉 away and the people find them and take them in😊😊😊
Maybe this picture is a hospital for hawks or eagles 🦅.I think this because there were big birds 🦅 in the room with some thick gloves for hawks and eagles. I wonder how there talons and beaks are so sharp and how wide are there wings are.
Maybe the people in the picture are taking care of some owls. Maybe the people are going to sell owl pellets.
Why are there so many owls? 🦉🦉📷
I think they are about to train the owl’s to do something.
I think that those people are training the birds or hawks in Saudi Arabia/Middle East
Why are there so many birds? Maybe the birds are wearing that thing on their face so they cannot bite anyone because then they cannot see anyone. I think maybe they might be training the birds because in a show I saw people who train eagles and it was a true story.
i see the men are wearing white robes. They could be in Arabia. Also the building looks like a waiting room or something ,the eagles or hawks look like plushies but only the top ones.I wonder why there are bars instead of windows ?
I think that 4 guys bought a bunch of owls and squished them all in one tiny place.I wonder why the men bought so many owls.I wonder why they bought the owls because it looks like they don’t like the owls.
Looking at the photo, first thing I wonder is if this is owl or and eagle. After looking at goggle photos I say this is eagle. I wonder why there are so many eagles? when I look at the photo I see posters on the wall. I think on the poster there is information about eagles. I see x-rays. this makes me think this could be a shelter for injured eagles.
I wonder why there are a lot of birds. Maybe it is a salon to cut the claws. I think of that because it looks like the birds are waiting in line.
Why are there so many birds /owls 🦜🦢🦚🐦🐥🦅🐣🐤🕊🦉?
What are they standing on maybe they are standing on the stand because there tired 😴 ? What are they wearing on there heads?
I wounder if the people are seeing if the birds are sick or hurt.
I think that people are taking care of owls in this picture because there is lots of habitat loss.
What is the meaning of this picture?
1. I think they work with birds
2. I wonder what they do with the birds
3. Maybe they saved the.
4. I wonder how they got so many birds
5. Maybe they do a show with the birds
I think that they help the birds and save them and they have a lot of birds to maybe do a show. And people like the birds because they look nice and are pretty.
I also want to add that the men might be vets. Because in the back there’s x rays. And also the men could prolly care less hopefully the birds are ok 👍
I meant probably
