Good morning Division 7,
Happy Friday! Just like that, week 2 of our virtual classroom is coming to a close.
Topics to discuss:
- “Sharing Circle” video conference guidelines
- Submitting assignments
- Learning opportunities
1. Sharing Circle” video conference guidelines
As you may know, we have our first class meeting via video today at 11 am. Please access Microsoft Teams a few minutes early to make sure you are set-up. Please enter the call with your microphone on “mute” (click the microphone button, it should have a line slashed through it). If the quality of the call is poor, please also turn of your video until it is your turn to share.
Yesterday, I set out guidelines for our class meeting. Two are most notable:
- Please be kind and respectful through out the entire call. We are all being vulnerable by sharing and attending the meeting.
- Please inform a parent/guardian about this video call. Be sure to ask for permission before joining.
Shortly after posting, the Burnaby School District sent these guidelines for video conferencing (click).
Please review these before joining the call.
(Large, bold and underline!)
2. Submitting assignments
As outlined yesterday, please complete and submit all stages of the project (not just the final piece). The process of how you got to the final piece is just as important! 🙂
Note: Each of your situations are unique during this time. Your completion and pace of learning opportunities is reliant on what makes sense for you. If you are experiencing heightened stress due to schoolwork, it is expected you adjust the learning opportunities so it makes sense for you.
3. Learning Opportunities
To do list:
a.) Morning Journal
b.) “Sharing Circle”
c.) Science – Reflect
d.) Literacy – Share
e.) Art
f.) Reading – Epic!, IXL or Khan Academy
g.) Body break, Service, Social break
a.) Morning Journal – Bouquets and Chocolates
It has been a while since we got to practice “Bouquets and Chocolates”. Even though we are not spending 6 hours together, there is a lot we can give “thanks” to.
I would like to give a bouquet and chocolate to
- all of you for your commitment and hardwork while learning online
- all the families who are supporting their children through this learning journey. Most of you are currently working at home and also stepping in as “teacher” to sometimes multiple children.
- My friends who are committed to checking in — either through a text, phone call, or video. It is important to keep connected as a community in this time as it may feel like a faraway concept while spending the majority of time in our own homes.
- Front line and essential services workers – all those still physically going into work to keep our communities safe.
Please reflect on your past week — who are some people you would love to give a bouquet and chocolate to and why?
b.) “Sharing Circle”
See you on Microsoft Teams at 11 am. As I mentioned…
Please review these before joining the call.
(Yes, it is so important, I mentioned it twice — in big, bold and underlined letters)
c.) Science – Reflection
Part 4: Reflection
What part of your structure design are you most proud of?
What did you find challenging in the design?
Did you follow your blueprint design exactly? What did you keep? What did you change?
Please also complete the two tables to find polygons in your structure. As available in teams, the assignment document is available here (click).
Architecture project due: Sunday April 19th
d.) Literacy
Share your work — Please send it to me (Ms. Daneshwand).
Also, I encourage you to read it to your family, friends or share it during Sharing Circle.
Accept feedback. (compliments and questions)
Reflect on your work – what are two stars and a wish for your story?
e.) Art
Since we are all spending a lot of time at home, your windows are likely very important for you right now to feel connected to the outside world. This art project will rely heavily on your window. I understand that not everyone may have windows in their home. If this is the case for you, create an imaginative window with scenes from the outside world.
For this project, you may use any art supplies. You may practice creating a realistic capture of your window or one using imagination. I encourage you to practice with new techniques (eg. monochromatic — using different shades of the same colour, mosaic – using bits and pieces of different material such as scrap paper).
Please send me your artwork. Please let me know if I can post it on the blog with your name or if you prefer anonymous (no name). You may include a description of your work to be posted with your work.
Examples of artist who capture the outside world from their window:
Possible techniques:
Monochromatic – different shades of the same colour
Mosaic – often creating using tiles or stained glass. You can use paper or other material available
f.) Reading – Epic!, IXL or Khan Academy
g.) Body break, Service, Social break
Have a wonderful weekend and hope to see you at our “Sharing Circles” class meeting at 11 am,
Ms. Daneshwand
