COVID-19 safety measures

School staff and students are welcome to wear face masks in and around the school to continue personal choices of health and wellness. Everyone will continue to wash hands frequently throughout the day. It is recommended that they bring reusable water bottles at home for drinking. They can re-fill at the water filling station at the start of any break time.

Meetings

The best way to contact me is through email between 8am-7pm. We can hold meetings in person, via Zoom or over the phone. If there is some urgency to the matter, please email the Mrs. Aujla.

Lates & Absences

We have returned to one bell schedule for the whole school and the day begins at 8:50am with an 8:45 bell. If you know your child will be late or absent, please let me know via email or call the school and inform the secretary of the late/absence. The secretary will make calls home if we have not received any prior indication of your child’s absence. Families should be doing the health check before allowing children to come to school.

NOTE: If your child presents symptoms at the door, they will be sent home. They will not be able to return to school until symptoms subside. If they test positive for COVID-19, they will be required to stay home until isolation is complete and/or symptoms have completely subsided.

Homework (aka work not completed in class)

Throughout the day, students work very hard on learning new concepts and have ample time to work on assignments. However, if students are not managing their time well, these assignments go home for completion, usually due the next day. Please check the planner every day with your child for due dates and help them to ensure they are returning completed assignments on time. A parent/guardian signature lets me know that the planner check was done.

While your child is home sick, hopefully they are resting as much as possible. If your child is up to it, feel free to pick up assignments from school if you would like your child to complete them while they’re away, or go online to find any Math and Language Arts activities. We can always catch up your child when they return to school as they will then receive direct instruction on how to complete the assignments. If you are keeping your child home for health/safety reasons, you may pick up assignments for the first few days as a courtesy, but no additional support will be given as school is in-person.

Snacks & Lunch

Not every child likes to eat a large breakfast first thing in the morning, so please make sure you send a healthy snack for recess time and something substantial for lunch. Also, keep in mind that children should not be sharing any food because we do have students who have nut & shellfish allergies, but also due to continuing safety measures. This also means that birthdays and celebrations will not be celebrated at school with any snacks unless they are individually packaged.
