Poetry!

Tuesday, April 14th

Dear Division 8,

Hope you all had a wonderful long weekend and enjoyed the sunny weather!

Your job for today is to explore poems! Do you have a book of poems at home? Start reading!

If you don’t, it’s okay, I’ve put a book online for you at Epic books…it’s called ‘Pizza and other Stinky Poems!’ It will be in your library.  Read some of the poems in the book and tell me your favourite one and why?

Epic! - Books for Kids - free All-you-can-read eBook library for ...For example:

My favourite poem was ‘Show and Smell’ because it was so funny and I could imagine someone in our class doing the same thing! It reminded me of all the yucky, rotten food we found in the coatroom before spring break!

I’ve also attached a video a Canadian Poet, Dennis Lee, who reads his poem, ‘Alligator Pie.’  Have a listen and be inspired to explore the poetry around you!

Love,

Ms. Binng

We are all together!

Thursday, April 9th

Good morning Division 8!

I know you’ve all been waiting to find out….my rock monster was the RED one!!!

Thank you for your guesses and to those of you who have sent your pictures to me.  I will be putting your pictures on our blog on the weekend!  If you haven’t had a chance to go for a walk and find rocks with your family – don’t worry! Email me your pictures by Monday.

Standing, Forest, Legs, Feet, WomanOn my walks around the neighbourhood, I’ve noticed hearts in windows of homes. It made me feel warmth and love during this time when many of us are apart.

Have you seen these hearts?

I learned that people are putting up these hearts to show that we care for each other and to spread some positivity in our world. For some of us, these hearts also show our gratitude for all of those people working now such as our doctors, nurses, truckers and grocery store workers.

So for this weekend, our jobs will be to spread a little joy and positivity to others. Even though we can’t be with each other, we can still show each other that we care and are all together!

How are we going to do this?

Project Hearts:

  1. Find some paper in your home…big or small…up to you!
  2. Cut out some hearts. You can make them fancy, use markers, pencil crayons to decorate.
  3. YOUR CHOICE – Write positive messages! ‘Thank you!’ or ‘Hope’ or your own wonderful ideas…
  4. Tape it to your window!
  5. Have your parents take a picture and email it to me at Satpaul.Binng@burnabyschools.ca

Thank you for bringing joy to all those around you Division 8. You are amazing people and I’m so lucky to know each of you!

Have a wonderful long weekend!

I’ve attached a couple of videos in case you wanted to learn how to make different kinds of hearts…your choice!

Love,

Ms. Binng
