Grand Opening Day!

We had our official Grand Opening of our corner store with Mrs. Kimmie present to mark the occasion!

We were incredibly proud of our class today.

Our students (shop employees and customers) each contributed patience, calmness, kindness, and respect to make our Grand Opening day a success. They shared their favourite moments and what exactly made this special experience memorable for each of them.

Thank you to all the families who donated items for our store. Today was filled with happy customers and excited shop cashiers, clerks and security guards. We can’t wait for the next shopping day!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

We had a ton of fun today celebrating friendship in Div. 12!

We did some yummy math, played games, shared valentines, and read a story about the importance of having balance in your life.

A favourite game today was Cheerio Tower! Ask your child about it!

Thank you to the many students who brought in treats for their classmates and teachers! We overheard a lot of “Thank yous” this afternoon.

Div. 12 Travels the World!

For our latest round of Show and Share, students researched a country they would love to visit one day. We all learned some fun facts, discovered amazing landmarks, and enjoyed seeing fantastic photos that perked a lot of curiosity.

We continue to practice our listening and speaking skills when presenting to an audience- focusing on speaking loud and clear enough for others to hear, making eye contact, and being able to answer questions.

Time to start planning your next vacation!

Saying goodbye to a friend

Together with the members of last year’s Division 12 class, we gathered to share our favourite memories, say goodbye, and celebrate the life of our beloved class fish, Marve.
It was a beautiful moment, and we were proud and touched to see the loving words our students wrote to Marve. Some students wanted to read their letter aloud during the ceremony.
There were a lot of sad feelings shared, and a lot of thoughts expressing how he brought joy and a sense of calm to Division 12. They all agreed that having a class pet is something special.

Rest in heavenly peace, Marve. You will be missed.

Happy Holidays!

We wish you all a wonderful and restful winter break… and a very happy and bright 2024!

See you back in January!

Ab-sew-lutely Fabulous!

If you need a mending job done or a button to be sewn on, ask your children to do it! Division 12 showed a tremendous amount of patience and creativity in their latest ADST sewing project. They began their stockings by drawing what they wanted to add to the fronts. Then they cut, glued and sewed their hearts out! When asked what was the most difficult part of their hand sewing, some stated:

when the thread came out of the needle.”

“when the thread got tangled.”

“threading the needle.”

We saw students trying to fix their problems. After a few attempts if they weren’t successful, they asked a friend for help. Some came to the teachers for some help as well. With all of these types of projects, our goal is to teach new skills but more importantly, highlight the fact that they can do difficult things and that perseverance pays off.  Click on the link below to see their beautiful creations.

Mini Hats!

Division 12 added MINI HATS to their ADST skill set (ability to design, make, and apply newly learned skills to produce a final product)

Students created their mini hats using only yarn and toilet paper rolls!

They learned to cut pieces of yarn to the same length and repeat a tie-and-knot process to create several knots that cover the paper roll. They then pulled the gathered yarn through to create the ‘rim’ of the hat. And finally tied the pieces together and gave it a haircut to create a pom-pom at the top.

Students picked up the process incredibly quickly and were excited to teach others!

SFU Science field trip!

The rain stayed away and we had a fun adventure up to SFU!

The bus ride was a blast and we managed to get both classes together onto one bus each way. We were amazed to be on campus and to see all the buildings and student spaces.

And while some of the scientific terminology used in the session was quite advanced, students were engaged and asking fantastic questions.

For one of the experiments we timed a little car with a few trials; we learned that the harder the force, the faster it went.

Ask your child about one of the questions they were asked to hypothesize: Which would fall faster- a bowling ball or a feather- if all the air was taken out of the room? We watched a video clip that surprised us!

A big thank you to Emory’s mom for joining us today… helping to supervise and keep everyone safe.

We can’t wait for our next field trip!

You’ve Got Mail

FROM ANYWHERE TO ANYONE

The students continue to engage in fun ways to practice their writing skills. One way they can choose is to write a letter, card or postcard to anyone in the school! We are learning what should be included in a letter and what information should be on the envelope. Of course stamps are also needed! The students were given the task of creating the artwork for the $0.25 Canadian stamp. They did a wonderful job. The students can also write to someone at home; this will be a great opportunity for your children to memorize their home address.
