Ab-sew-lutely Fabulous!

If you need a mending job done or a button to be sewn on, ask your children to do it! Division 12 showed a tremendous amount of patience and creativity in their latest ADST sewing project. They began their stockings by drawing what they wanted to add to the fronts. Then they cut, glued and sewed their hearts out! When asked what was the most difficult part of their hand sewing, some stated:

when the thread came out of the needle.”

“when the thread got tangled.”

“threading the needle.”

We saw students trying to fix their problems. After a few attempts if they weren’t successful, they asked a friend for help. Some came to the teachers for some help as well. With all of these types of projects, our goal is to teach new skills but more importantly, highlight the fact that they can do difficult things and that perseverance pays off.  Click on the link below to see their beautiful creations.

FROM ANYWHERE TO ANYONE

The students continue to engage in fun ways to practice their writing skills. One way they can choose is to write a letter, card or postcard to anyone in the school! We are learning what should be included in a letter and what information should be on the envelope. Of course stamps are also needed! The students were given the task of creating the artwork for the $0.25 Canadian stamp. They did a wonderful job. The students can also write to someone at home; this will be a great opportunity for your children to memorize their home address.

Halloween Fun

We had a lot of fun today! Division 15 joined us for bingo and games. Our afternoon was spent parading and dancing outside while sharing our awesome costumes with the rest of the primary grades. Please watch this video of our Halloween festivities:

Sip and See #1

Thank you families for coming in this morning to see Division 12’s morning routines as well as some Literacy activities. It was fun watching parents and children working on the Brain Bender questions together. Our next Sip and See will have a Numeracy focus. Be prepared to test your mathematical skills 😄!

Pumpkin Jack 🎃

Meet the newest member of Division 12! Pumpkin Jack will be staying with us all year. We are hoping to learn more about the life cycle of a pumpkin and observe all the fun and foul details of decomposition!
Pumpkin Jack’s twin lives outside. We are hoping to observe similarities/differences between the 2 pumpkins in their respective settings.
Gutting out our mini pumpkins was messy!
What should we name Pumpkin Jack’s twin?

The students thoroughly enjoyed listening to the story about Pumpkin Jack and all the stages of his life. All the students created summaries of these stages. They were given free rein on how they wanted to show their learning. Play dough creations, drawings, paper cutouts, and written paragraphs were all the different ways the students shared their learning.
