Division 20 Travels the World!

For our latest round of Show and Share, students are researching a country or city they would love to visit one day. We have been learning fun facts, discovering intriguing traditions and landmarks, and seeing some fantastic photos to keep us curious!

We continue to practice our listening and speaking skills when presenting to an audience: focusing on speaking loud and clear enough for others to hear, making eye contact, and being able to answer questions.

Click on the photo below to take a peek at some of the countries we would like to visit on our Div. 20 interactive map! (Click on the pink location pins on the map)

It could be time to start planning your next vacation!

Author Study: Chris Van Allsburg

Div. 20 is immersed in an author study on Chris Van Allsburg!

Chris Van Allsburg is a writer and illustrator of many children’s books. He has won two Caldecott Medals for picture book illustration, for Jumanji and The Polar Express, both of which he also wrote, and were later adapted as successful motion pictures!

He is well known for his imagination, creative storytelling, and unique style of illustrations. His books present magical worlds where anything can happen.

The first story we read together was Two Bad Ants. We discussed perspective/points of view, character traits, and how the ants’ feelings changed throughout the book. We also discussed Van Allsburg’s art style in the illustrations. Crosshatching, stipling, and repeated lines were new techniques we learned and noticed throughout the story.

Take a peek at some of our interpretations-  drawing from the an ant’s perspective/point of view:
