ADST: Sewing! 🧵🪡

Div. 20 showed phenomenal patience and growth mindset skills when learning how to sew today!

(ADST focus: Use materials in a safe manner and develop new skills – via new procedures, trial and error, problem solving, and collaborative ideas- through individual projects)

Students chose their winter stocking colour and learned how to thread a needle.

They will adorn their winter stockings with fun embellishments shortly… stay tuned!

Mini Hats!

Division 20 has added MINI HATS to their ADST skill set (ability to design, make, and apply newly learned skills to produce a final product)

Students created their mini hats using only yarn and toilet paper rolls! Their Big Buddies came to help them this afternoon and filled our classroom with such positive energy.

Div. 20 learned to cut pieces of yarn to the same length and repeat a tie-and-knot process to create several knots that cover the paper roll. They then pulled the gathered yarn through to create the ‘rim’ of the hat. And finally tied the pieces together and gave it a haircut to create a pom-pom at the top.

An impressive growth mindset was observed with this task- it was very challenging at first to loop and tie knots, but they ALL persevered. I am so proud of them!

They are now excited to teach others and to also create hats for all their classroom stuffy friends 🙂

Remembrance Day 🕊

Div. 20 read stories and discussed the significance of Remembrance Day.

Students shared their thoughts on what peace looks like, feels like, sounds like… and what it is not.

A few students in our class volunteered to participate in our Primary assembly to showcase their collage artwork, while two students carried our class wreath we made with watercolour poppies to the front of the stage to join the other class wreaths.

I will remember by…

“Wearing my poppy.”

“Closing my eyes to remember what the soldiers did for us.”

“Singing O Canada.”

“Thanking the soldiers who fought for us.”
