Orange Shirt Day

Today we had our Orange Shirt Day assembly in the gym. We listened to the significance of the orange shirt and learned the meaning behind the phrase, “Every Child Matters.”

As a class, we talked about why we matter as individuals. We also thought of different ways in how we can show others that they matter:

“Love their cultures.” ~Sophia

“By listening to people.” ~Calliah

“Being gentle.” ~Milan

“Telling them that they matter.” ~Helma

“Including others.” ~Maxime

“I can show them respect and show them that I care about them.” ~Yousef

Every Child Matters by Phyllis Webstad honours the history and resiliency of Indigenous Peoples on Turtle Island and moves us all forward on a path toward Truth and Reconciliation.

Terry Fox Run

It was the perfect temperature for our Terry Fox Run!

It was fantastic to see the whole school community participating in this annual school-wide event throughout the day. Thank you to those families who took time out of their day to cheer us on around every corner. We got our hearts pumping, and our cerebellums allowed us to move with ease… and speed!

Thank you to those who have donated online to support our Terry Fox fundraising campaign to date. We learned a lot about Terry and how brave he was. We also discussed how all donations go toward developing new and improved treatments for those living with and fighting cancer.

Hello Div. 20 Families!

Welcome to Division 20!

I am excited to begin this new school year with your children.

I use our class blog to keep families in the loop on what is happening in the classroom. Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the headings along the top and the sidebar items. This blog is updated regularly, so please refer to it often for current information.

September is a busy month; here are a few reminders to note:

  • Please ensure your child has a pair of indoor shoes and a change of clothes, including socks and underwear (to be kept at school at all times); please label all items as well as jackets, water bottles, and lunch bags
  • Snacks are eaten outside during morning recess- please pack a small and simple healthy snack for your child that can be eaten quickly

On the horizon:

  • A link to a short digital questionnaire to help me prepare for our Parents as Partners conference on Sept. 25th will be sent home next week; please take a moment to fill it out before your conference time
  • Parents as Partners conference information will be emailed to you via the school office
  • Our first round of Show and Share will begin on Monday, Sept. 22nd
  • 2:00pm early dismissal on Sept. 25th and 26th

I look forward to meeting each of you soon… welcome to Division 20!
