Update – Class Meeting, April 22

Happy Earth Day! I am grateful for this planet and the wonderful gifts offered by the land and water. Take some time today to reflect on what you can do to show gratitude for planet Earth!Earth Day 2020: What's it all about? - CBBC Newsround

Today in our class meeting, we reviewed the steps for dividing numbers with decimals. I shared this PowerPoint through screen share, and we practiced a few examples together:Dividing with Decimals Powerpoint

The questions we tried were:

a) 5.04 ÷ 4

b) 22.5  ÷ 9

c) 2.88  ÷ 8

d) 2.96 ÷ 5

Try them out on your own, and verify with a calculator.

If you can answer the two questions on the last slides of the PowerPoint, email me your answers! 🙂

We ended our meeting with a little dance party.. try on your own if you wish!

Edit: My brother just sent me this song called “El Niño”, which is about weather and climate*, appropriate for both Earth Day and your personal dance party! AND you can practice your French** while listening to it! Can you hear any phrases we learned in class? (I’ll give you a hint: Quelle temp fait-il en été?)

** Note: weather and climate are two different things! Weather is what we experience on a day-to-day basis, like rain or sunshine, whereas climate is what the weather is like over a long period of time in a specific area (ie: Yellowknife, NWT has a very different climate than Burnaby, BC even though there might be snow at certain times in both). When people talk about climate change, they are talking about a change in long-term weather patterns.

**Another note: El Niño is a climate pattern where the water in the Pacific Ocean near the equator gets hotter than usual and affects the atmosphere and weather around the world. Although this song is in French, the title is actually in Spanish! 🙂
