Hello! Welcome to my blog! I look forward to using this space to document the collaborative learning journeys of myself and my students. I feel so fortunate to have been given the opportunity to teach in Burnaby, the community that I have always called home and where I now am lucky to be raising my two daughters.
As a reflective and responsive educator, I hold a strong image of my young learners as being competent and curious individuals, who must be given the opportunity to participate in the dialogue of their own “learning conversation.” I believe that students are complex and unique, each carrying their own experiences, skills, interests, wonderings, and worries alongside their day to day life. Students need to understand and believe that they hold a place of value in their community.
“Allow us to tell you what we are thinking or feeling. Whether our voices are big or small; whether we whisper or shout it, or paint, draw, mime or sign it-listen to us and hear what we say.” (Right No. 13 from For Every Chid, The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in words and pictures, text adapted by Caroline Castle.)
Inspired by these words, I look to find ways to make learning an engaging and joyful experience for the community of learners that join me in the classroom each day.
Thank you for taking some time to join us on our learning journey!
Cheers!
