Hi Families of Div. 6,

It’s hard to believe we’ve finished term two! Students worked incredibly hard over the last few months developing new skills and “bumping up” old ones.

Students got together in small groups and reflecting on some of the learning and experiences they had this term and first. Please see their reflections and snapshots of our learning and fun below.

Buddies!

By: Sayva & Emma

Buddies have been really fun! We have done a lot of things and here are some examples. One is Halloween. For Halloween we made board games and tiny play pieces for the board games. On halloween we did the parade with our little buddies. For winter break we went to the pancake breakfast, played “make a snow man,” and made kindness lights that tell you ways to be kind with our little buddies. Throughout the term when we had nothing else to do we would read or draw with them. Last but not least we made Christmas trees out of icing ice cream cones and lots of candy! We have not changed buddies so we get to know them well over the year.

LIBRARYTERM 2)

By: Amal:) and Joe

In January, (Literacy week) we did pod reading! (Pods are groups of classes next to each other like neighborhoods.) What we did in pod reading was that we would pick a book from our classroom libraries. Once we picked a book, we walked out of the classroom (while we held our picked books) into the pod (you can bring a pillow) We could go anywhere in our pod! We had to be really quiet, Ms. Holiday said we were the quietest pod in the school! We could only read 30 minutes, and it passed so quickly!

In library this term, we learned about digital literacy passwords and privacy. Another thing we did was picked books for our animal inquiry projects, Ms. MacLeod helped us find books that might help us in our AIP*(*animal inquiry project). A club stundents can join is comic club, where students who like comics make comics.

Thanks for reading have a good day!

AIP

(Animal inquiry project)

By: Shiho, Milana, Fatima, Labib

This term, one of our biggest projects was AIP. One little project that connected to AIP is the camouflaged animals. We colored the fish, butterflies, and lizards to match its surroundings. After we were done coloring, and sticking the animals, we got together with our little buddies and let them find our animals. That is one thing to use to hide or hunt. While we made our powerpoint, we had to make a slide on our animal adaptation. We learned about the two different adaptations they are Structural and Behavioral. Structural is an adaptation which animals use and is connected to the animals body. Behavioural is an adaptation that they do. AIP is a great way to learn about animals.

Try to find the hidden animals in the pictures below !

Emoji Art

In art we made Emoji Art. We started by designing in pencils and then fine lined and coloured. In the middle, we put an emoji. We designed a face with things like the heart, eyes, and happy faces. We coloured the patterns in bright colours and in black and white. It reminded me of graphity murals. I loved the vibrant colours. They were very unique. Most of the class loved how you could make multiple designs. It was cool and so much fun.

Puberty

By: Mika, Rasta, Audrey, Kela

In term 2 we learned about puberty with Madame Madaline.

We learned that during puberty you have changes in your body and mind. We learned that when you grow up, you grow taller. For girls, hips grow wider and for boys, sholders also grow wider. On your face, we learned that as we grow older we get acne mostly know as pimples. We also learned how hormones work and that they send a signal to our body to start puberty! When we go through puberty we learned to stay healthy by brushing our teeth twice everyday, wash our faces, and to shower more often.

CORIX

BY: Ava , Artem ,Ruben

We learned about how they make  heat energy from wood chips. They burn so clean they end up with 2% ash. They showed us a big bin of wood chips too grind it up. They had extra tanks of water in case they had to clean or fix the wood chip bin, the tanks of water heats up energy. It was really loud, hot and scary on the top when we were going down the stairs there were holes in them. It also felt anything could explode at any minute. We had to yellow lines for safety. If you touch a bin it is very hot and you will burn yourself, you’ll get a third degree burn.

Basketball

The first skill is shooting. And the second skill is passing. And the lmportant skill is dribbling. Teamwork is really important because you need to pass to your teammates you also need to follow the rules by playing fairly but you also need to compete.

The Unfair Game

In the unfair game, we played an unfair math game! This game as full of emotions as we went through disappointment, frustration, and more! However, it wasnt just negative emotions, there was also happy feelings like joy, positivity, etc. We played by answering  math questions and if you answered them correct, then the “unfair”part comes in. You see, if you get it correct, then you get to pick a card, some of the cards are good, and some of them are bad. An example of a good card is win 10 points and an example of a bad card is “lose 5 points” the best card is “earn 100 points” and the worst card is ”lose 15 points“. This can lead to unfair circumstances. Once this term, the team in last place managed to win by getting “earn 100 points” we had so much fun playing this game.

Book Club
In Book Club students read novels, met as a group and shared their thinking. They completed a book review and a “book in a bag” after finishing their novels. Div.6 had a great time presenting their objects to their group members, seeing if they understood the symbolism behind the objects they chose. They represented their novels in creative and thoughtful ways!
Some students were away at the time of typing up reflections. We’ll try to add their reflections when we get back from break.
Some other snapshots from the year…

We’re excitedly looking forward to term three!

Have a wonderful break Div.6!
