Hi Everyone,

Sorry that my posts have been so late recently – I’ve been trying to leave school before the sun  sets and then I forget to post.

This morning, we started off with reading and then we looked at our finished Colour by Number Group pictures that were Harry Potter themed. They looked awesome! We will tape them together tomorrow.

Then, we got into some division and multiplication. We talked about “related facts” and how this means that when given three numbers in a multiplication or division equation e.g. 8, 7, 56:

We can make two multiplication equations and two division equations with these numbers:

8 x 7 =  56

7 x 8 = 56

56 / 7 = 8

56 / 8 = 7

We also worked on doubling as a strategy to find related products.

For example:

2 x 4 = 8

If we doubled the 2 to become 4.

We could do 4 x 4 = 16 and that would also double the product of 8 into 16.

The students were assigned textbook work (sorry, I don’t currently have this written down – but it is questions from the first lesson of Chapter 3 in each of the Grades’ textbooks.

Then, we had snack and went outside for a frosty DPA.

When we came back in, Grade 5’s picked back up on their natural resources research and question answers and I read about the tropical rainforest with the Grade 4’s. Then, they were sent back to their desks to fill out the tropical rainforest square of their biome sheet. If it is not done, it is for homework tonight.

After lunch, we did our Daily 5 stations. The writing station this week is for students to write an advanced acrostic poem from the writing lesson we did last week.

At the very end of the day, we decorated and designed our illustrations for our expanded sentences that we started on with Ms. Peddie.

We had a great day!

Library will be on Thursday this week since there is no school on Wednesday because of Remembrance Day. Spelling test is also on Thursday morning!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
