Thursday, November 5th

Hi Everyone,

Today, we started off with silent reading and then we read a quick chapter of “Wonder.” After that, students worked on their mystery group pictures to test their basic division.

Then, we had snack and DPA.

When we came back inside, we used computers (one per group) and the students thought of five words for each month and had to look up the French word for each word associated with the month and write it down in their little French booklets that we made last French class.

After, we did a little bit of Social Studies. The Grade 5’s had to answer some questions about a natural resource of their choice by looking through the resource books I had borrowed. The Grade 4’s and I read about the Tropical Rainforest biome and will continue this next class.

After lunch, we did some Remembrance Day poetry. I showed the students how to do a Grade 4/5 level acrostic (not just using one word). We also did some choral reading of some nature poems and looked at the rhyme structure, repetition if present, and the meter. We talked about how using good descriptions and adjectives makes the poem easier to visualize and create a mental picture with. Then, they were sent to go work on Remembrance Day acrostic poems. They did such a wonderful job with these.

After recess, Mrs. Peddie came and had the students continue their expanding sentences to make wonderful, descriptive sentences. If it is not done, the writing part for this needs to be done tonight on the worksheet provided.

Have a good night!

Also, before I forget – library will be on Thursday next week!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
