Hi Everyone,

Today, we started off our day by taking up challenging questions from the Math homework for last night, Lesson 2. Then, we played a fun Math game to consolidate our learning for number patterns. This is the link to the game: https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?a=activity01

After, it was still raining so for DPA we instead had building, board game, or drawing time.

Then, we started our introduction to beginner French. We went over how to say Je m’appelle _______ and then we learned our colours in French. We practiced saying them, unscrambling the letters on the board to make our French colour words, and then the students were tasked with drawing crayons, writing the French word for the colour, and colouring it to match the colour word given. This is homework if it is not done.

After French, we talked about immigration and emigration as well as pull and push factors. We talked about why people might want to leave a country and what they might hope for in a new country. The students shared who they knew who had immigrated to Canada in their family or friends. After, we did  a reading on the Chinese Head Tax, highlighted the important points, and discussed the unfairness of this head tax and how  this represented discrimination against the Chinese in  Canada at this time.

Right before lunch, we worked on our autobiographies and wrote and drew pictures for Talents and Passions and Challenges and Accomplishments. This is for homework also if not done.

After lunch, we had community time.

The students also have a weekend journal for this weekend.

The prompt is: If Covid-19 was over, where  would you go on vacation?  Who would you go with, what would you do, and why? *Remember to use capital letters at the start of sentences, indent paragraphs, and use separate paragraphs for new ideas/thoughts.

Grade 4’s are expected to write 3/4 of a page and Grade 5’s a full page.

Have a lovely weekend and don’t forget that there’s no school tomorrow!

Sincerely,

Ms. Wilks
