This year’s team is Burnaby Champs for the third year in a row. They went undefeated against Burnaby Mountain and Alpha but had tough games against Charles Tupper (at the time Vancouver #1) and Argyle (North Shore #2). Up next is the all star game on Nov. 14 at the BLRC.
The School Athletic Awards Ceremony is on Thursday June 6. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased online or at the PE Office. Players can still get their votes for best back and best forward to the coaches.
Summer Under 15 and Under 16 Provincial Regional Championship (PRCs) Rugby Tryouts for Vancouver East is on Saturday May 25 from 10 AM to 12 PM (registration/warmup at 9:30 AM) at Burnaby Lake East Grass Fields. U15 B2Gold PRCs (UBC’s Wolfson Fields) June 22-23 U16 B2Gold PRCs (UBC’s Wolfson Fields) July 5-7

The Lower Mainland 7 aside Tournament is on April 19 at John Oliver Park, Delta. We will need parent drivers to help get the team to the field. Let Mr. Vagnarelli know if you can help. We will meet at the school at 8:30 and depart by 8:45. Tournament is schedule to go till 6:30 PM. Players are reminded to bring a lunck, snack, water bottle and all of their rugby equipment.
Junior Rugby has started for the 2013 season. The team practices on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 3:15 PM on the grass field. Games will begin in April and as of now are scheduled on Thursdays (or Wednesdays).
During December the Leadership Class began a number of projects that proved to be a great success. First, the class visited many of our feeder schools to make Gingerbread Houses with the grade 2 classes. The class also organized a White Ribbon Campaign to bring awareness to ending violence against women. Our Food Drive collected 48 boxes and more than 1500 items for the Greater Vancouver Food Bank. The class also held a Santa Photo Day so students could get their picture taken with our guest Santa (Thanks Paul S!). Coming in January is the second Pep Rally for our winter teams which will be kicked off with a Spirit Week.
With our new gyms now open, check the schedule in the student bulletin or outside the Large Gym. Up next is the Badminton Intramurals starting in February. Sign up sheet are available outside the PE office near the end of January.
The Fall Sports Pep Rally on November 1 was a huge success! The Cheer Team, Senior Girls Volleyball and Cross Country Team all showed their “INNER WILDCAT”.
2012-2013 BNWSSAA Bantam Rugby Champions! Congratulations to this year’s Grade 8s who won the Burnaby Banner by defeating Burnaby North in a thrilling final on Nov. 5. The team came up short against Carson Graham in the Vancouver & District Semi Final but hope to improve their ranking in the future. Team award winners this year were: Team MVP – Ansel Hait, Best Forwards: Gus Rai (Naveen Kainth, Micheal Zieffle runner ups), Best Back: Austin Arotta, JC Bonilla (Austin Preisll runner up).
The Leadership Class recently visited the UBC Ropes Course and were put through a series of challenges that tested their communication and team work skills.
This year’s class is working hard at organizing the upcoming Terry Fox Run on Thursday September 27. They are also helping come up with new fun activities for our Grade 8s at their retreat. Upcoming events include the very popular Fall Sports Pep Rally and Halloween Hunt.
