Leadership Course Description

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

The intent of the Leadership Development course is to help students develop an awareness of their leadership abilities and to develop their skills by providing them with a wide variety of leadership oriented experiences.  Students will be involved in theoretical classroom sessions and will have an active leadership role in the school and community by organizing different events.

Leadership can be defined as having an INTENTIONAL POSITIVE INFLUENCE on the lives and behaviours of others.  By defining leadership this way, we encourage students to become aware of their impact on others and to develop constructive leadership behaviours.

Throughout the entire school year, a number of projects will be undertaken by the class in order to develop the skills taught in the classroom.  Below is a list of some of these activities and events:

Grade 8 Retreat, Noon Hour Activities (i.e. Wii/DDR Week, Halloween Hunt, Santa Photos), Terry Fox Run, Noon Hour Intramurals, Community Fundraisers, Food Drive, RAKs (Random Acts of Kindness), Pep Rallies, Gingerbread House Making with feeder schools, Deck The Door Contest.
