Our Class Promise

We have been spending a lot of time talking about the class community we want to create together. We began with a question: How do we want to feel in our class? The children agreed that they want to feel: “happy,” “excited,” “delighted,” “loved,” “safe,” “calm,” “peaceful,” “relaxed,” and “fun.”

As citizens of our class, we all have rights and responsibilities. If this is how we want to feel at school, how can we help one another? What can we do to make sure everyone feels this way in our class?

The children had so many thoughtful ideas! We discussed our ideas and grouped them to highlight what is most important to us. With this in mind, we have created our class promise:

• Play and learn together
• Be safe
• Give the gift of attention
• Use our WITS
• Help others
• Be welcoming and kind
• Be creative and have fun!

We have also represented these ideas through drawings:

We have created a poster as a symbol of our commitment to one another. Our class promise will hang proudly in our classroom all year as a meaningful reminder!

BIG IDEA: Rights, roles and responsibilities shape our identity and help us build healthy relationships with others.
