The grade 6 & 7 students have been learning about the medicinal properties of cedar tea. It is very high in vitamin C, and it can also soothe a sore throat. We discuss the importance of having guidance with taking medicine, and we only taste small amounts. Students sampled the fragrant beverage in simple origami paper cup that they crafted themselves.

Several classes of primary students created paint brushes by connecting a clipping of a cedar bough to a chop stick with craft wire. Then they used this tool to paint with. Students are learning about technology — tools that make our lives easier.

The stones behind this group of students are the outdoor classroom at Stoney Creek and the mud makes it hard to access. So how would we like to change that? There is a survey link provided here for teachers, students and community members to complete in order to get an idea of what the majority of people want. This is the first of many questions to improve the area. Thank you and stay tuned😊

It is so great to have this virtual connection to students, staff, and the community! As  a place-based educator here at Stoney Creek, I want to share what is going on outside the school, in our beautiful surroundings. Today Divisions 6 & 7 went on a walk to learn about local trees and to collect cottonwood buds. My name is Leigh Taylor-Gibbs and I am passionate about teaching students about their “place” in the world.
