Homework

  • Always do your homework the night it is assigned. The longer you wait the more you forget.  What you learn in class goes into short-term memory.  Practicing what you learn is the only way to move it to long-term memory.
  • Read over your class notes before doing your homework. Questions that you might get struck on might be similar to some examples in your notes.
  • Check your answers with the ones in the back of the book. If you get some questions wrong, try to find the mistake.  If that doesn’t work, come for help or ask in class.
  • Do NOT do more than 2 questions at a time before checking the answer. If you did the whole homework assignment wrong (maybe 1 to 2 hours work) and only checked the answers after you were finished, would you redo the whole assignment?

Studying for quizzes, tests, midyear exams, and final exams

  • Go over your notes. Cover up the solutions to the examples from your notes and try them.  Then compare these the solution.
  • Redo some of the harder type homework questions.
  • Go over old Quizzes and Tests. Make sure you do NOT repeat mistakes made in the past.
  • Study groups are often helpful.
  • Get help where needed.

In Class

  • To neat and organized notes.
  • Ask questions. Chances are, if you have a question, so do other people.
  • Come to class prepared (do you have all your supplies)
