Hot Topics

Hot Topics:

Below are the main topics that we ere working on in class this term.  It may be fun to get some books on these “hot topics” or simply strike up some good conversations.  Remember to keep it fun!  Kids learn best when they are at play.

Language Arts:

  • Playing games to rhyme words
  • learning some sight words
  • home reading comes home every night so children can practice reading beginning pattern books.  They have learned to point to the words and follow the print from left to right.  They have been taught to look at the pictures and use their knowledge of letter sounds to figure out the new words on each page.
  • writing lower case letters starting at the top
  • Singing songs, chanting poems and reading stories (Poem books will come home occasionally)
  • Learning parts of a Story (Story Workshop) like characters, problem, setting etc.
  • using clues in a story or picture to predict what will happen next

Math:

  • Money
  • Probability
  • Measurement
  • Adding and Subtracting to 10

Science:

  • learning about what living things need to survive.  We will be hatching chicks in the class and learning how to care for them in all stages of development.
  • life cycle of a chicken
  • Using our five senses to observe various seasonal changes in our environment.

Social Studies:

  • important people in our community (police, firefighters, hospital staff, teachers, families, etc.)
  • places in our community
  • Jobs in our community and skills needed for those jobs
