Good Thursday Morning!

v  The Burnaby Public Library has the best summer challenge for you! Check out the attached poster and print it off for an adventurous scavenger hunt-like list you can engage with your children over the entire summer. There are lists of places to visit, things to do, look for and learn.  This is such a thoughtful list, I’ll definitely be trying somethings out too!

v  The Primary Care Network is hosting a DocTalk this Friday the 18th at 12-1 PM this week. Join Dr. Baldev Sanghera to discuss the latest information on the available Covid vaccines. There will also be a channel set up for Arabic translation provided by ISSofBC. Registration is required, click here to register and submit questions before hand to msahota@divisionbc.ca – for more information, check out the attached posters.

Helping children develop emotional understanding requires repeated and intentional practice. Adults can support children’s development by helping them identify, label, and talk about emotions (source: Better Kid Care). Learn more @ www.feelingsfirst.ca

o   What can you do to help young children process their feelings?

§  Ask them how they feel – “How are you feeling? It looks like you might be feeling sad.”

§  Talk about how others might feel – “Why do you think she was sad? How could you tell?”

§  Help them when they need to calm down – “Let’s take a deep breath together.”

§  Label and define feelings when words fail – “That feeling is called surprised.”

§   Explain that all feelings are okay, but not all behaviours – “It is okay to feel frustrated. It’s not okay to push your friend.”

Enjoy this glorious sunshine today!
