Phases of the moon

Our class has been having many conversations about the sky. We have identified which objects can be seen during the day/night. We learned about the phases of the moon and students made a model to illustrate these.

Sometimes students don’t fully understand concepts when they are taught to the whole class. Here is a simple explanation and a video montage in case you want to follow up with them.

Phases of the moon

During non-covid times, we would have done this activity using Oreo cookies but it is almost impossible for children to eat cookies (especially when they are not supposed to), so we used paper instead. If however, you would like to do it at home, here are the instructions:

If instead of a person…

On Wednesday, students listened to the story If instead of a person, read by indigenous author Courtney Defriend. Students then created their own images illustrating the way in which different parts of the earth can be connected. Next time maybe I’ll even figure out how to rotate the images.
