The CBC Music Class Challenge is an annual contest where groups perform a song chosen from a pre-approved list. It is a great opportunity to learn about the music, life, and career of a Canadian artist.

2019

Students enthusiastically prepared for this contest and this year, there were 3 entries from our school:

  • Div. 7 were introduced to the Newfie dialect as they learned I’se the By, a traditional Newfoundland folk song.
  • Div. 18 students enjoyed pretending to be pirates in Splash’N Boots’ I’ll Be the Captain.
  • The Capitol Hill Elementary Choir performed Human by Twin Flames. Students connected well with the messages of building relationships and celebration of Indigenous languages and cultures in the song. Human is the official song of the International Year of Indigenous Languages.

2018

There were over 1500 entries from all over Canada, and we are especially proud of the String Defaults, who made it to the top 10 in the Elementary Instrumental category.
