Hand chimes sound beautiful. Students learned about note duration, pitch, and melody. They had to listen intently to understand how their note fits in to the entire piece. Above all, they learned patience and cooperation.
This year, a group of nine grade 4 and 5 students formed the Hand Chime Ensemble, They started playing hand chimes in October and by November, they had learned several pieces and even recorded Carly Rae Jepsen’s Call Me Maybe for the CBC Music Classroom Challenge Contest. To our surprise and delight, our entry was chosen as one of the 10 finalists in the Elementary Instrumental category!
