Classroom expectations

It’s another school year and I’m super happy and excited to work with you this year!

This following is an outline of important information about our class.

Planner

Each student is required to have a planner that will be used on a regular basis. They will be used for recording homework assignments, upcoming dates (tests, project due dates, field trips), and as a means of communicating between home and school. The planner will go home each night; the parent/guardian will check to ensure that homework is completed, and any communicated information is received. On the following day, the agenda will be returned to school and checked. Please use this book to communicate any questions, concerns, or comments you have.

Classroom Rules

The rules in our classroom are based on the premise that you “Respect Everyone and Respect Everything”. While these rules are all-encompassing, more specific rules of conduct and behaviour have been and will be reviewed with the students. Emphasis rests more on what students are encouraged to do and should do than on behaviour that is not allowed. Consequences for inappropriate behaviour may include:

  • Discussion and staying in during recess
  • Students writing a self-reflection on their behaviour
  • Call Home
  • Visit to the Principal

Homework

Students will be working on assignments and small projects in class.  Any work that is not completed in class will be assigned as homework and should be completed in a timely manner.

Reading 20 Minutes a Night

Setting a regular reading routine is a great way to engage your child into the daily habit of reading. I recommend that they read every night for 20 minutes before bed and make it a nightly routine.

Other important information

  • All students are expected to participate in class and follow classroom routines
  • If possible, students should have a silent reading book at school every day.
  • Students will have access to the school library on a weekly basis
  • Class helpers and responsibilities will be assigned to students on a weekly basis in order for students to contribute in maintaining an organized classroom.
  • It is encouraged that all students bring a water bottle to keep at school
  • If possible, can you please ensure your child has a pair of indoor shoes, as it helps to maintain the cleanliness of the classroom
