At Capitol Hill we believe it is healthy for children to get outside throughout the day for fresh air and exercise. Living on the West Coast we know that our climate contains a consistent amount of rainfall. It makes sense that in our climate we are well prepared to be outside in all types of weather conditions. We will be going outside during every recess, even if is raining. It is very important for students to dress appropriately in the event of wet or cold weather.  Please ensure your child(ren) has/have suitable clothing for the weather.

Being prepared for the weather

We know that if children are well prepared to be outside in the rain, etc, they actually enjoy it! As long as they stay dry and warm there is a great deal of fun to be had in all kinds of weather. To be prepared to be outside it is important for your child to have the following (weather dependent):

  • A rain coat or water resistant covering
  • Rubber boots to keep feet dry (if you are able to provide them with a pair to keep at school that would be perfect)
  • “Muddy Buddies” – zip-up rain suit they can slip over their clothes
  • An umbrella
  • A coat with a hood
  • Snow pants
  • Snow boots
  • Mittens, gloves, neck warmers, toques, hats

We also ask that all students maintain an extra set of clothing to be kept in the classroom at all times. Accidents happen in Kindergarten and it helps to have a change of clothes when you need it.
A full set of extra clothes consists of:

-1 shirt
-1 pair of pants
-1 pair of underwear
-1 pair of socks
-1 pair of inside shoes (no laces please)
