Releasing Butterflies

ButterfliesWe were given 10 caterpillars to develop and in the end we had 8 that completely developed and were able to be released into the wild. Two of those butterflies had wings that were not 100% correct and the students were concerned about them. I explained that not everything works out the way we planned and this is one of those moments. We talked about the cycle of life and how sometimes, in the wild, those creatures that are not strong for their species, end up being food or resources for another species. This is not an ideal situation, but one that is a part of the life cycles that exist around us. Predator-prey.
