Hello families! Welcome to our class blog! You have automatically been subscribed and you will receive an email each time the blog is updated. Please feel free to check out the links on the homepage and explore the other pages! Enjoy learning about the learning, exploring, communicating, collaborating (and so much more) as we progress through the school year!
SOCCER SESSIONS– We were lucky to have PASS Soccer come to our school to coach the students on skills and drills in soccer. They learned dribbling, juggling, ball control, turning with the ball, shooting and playing small sided games against each other. The students seemed to enjoy the soccer sessions and the coaches were great!
NOISY READING– It has been such a joy watching students share in reading stories with their parents, with another student’s parent or with another classmate. Sharing in the joy of reading is a powerful way to develop language and communication and to further develop speaking and listening skills. It also helps lead to becoming lifelong readers!
TERRY FOX RUN- The whole school community participated in an hour-long run/walk as part of our annual Terry Fox Run. Thank you for those who were able to donate to the Terry Fox Foundation, which supports innovative cancer research. “The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each member is the team.”
MATTER- We are learning about Matter, changing states of matter and soon thermal energy in our class. As part of our learning, we invited a group called SQWIST (The Society for Canadian Women in Science and Tech) to come teach us a few things about the three states of matter (Liquid, Solid and Gas) and the secret, not-so-common state called Plasma! Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass. In order to learn about a special substance, the instructor taught us to mix food colouring, cornstarch and water. This was called OOBLECK! It can mimic the qualities of a solid or a liquid and the students had a lot of fun exploring their Oobleck! Try it at home!
MYSTERY SCIENCE- to complement our Science explorations, we have been completing experiments and activities through Mystery Science. When learning about the properties of different materials used for clothing, the students first tested different materials for their softness, texture, and absorbency. The students were then challenged to build a hat that protects them from the sun, using only paper bags, tinfoil, clothing pegs and a paper plate. Here are some photos of the process and then the amazing hats the students created while collaborating with a partner!
Stay tuned for more adventures in learning in Division 16!!
