kittenDivision 10 read the book Kitten’s First full Moon by Kevin Henkes.  It is the story of a kitten that thinks the moon looks like a bowl of milk.  Then we did a science experiment.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASupplies: Milk, Pie Tin, Detergent, Food Coloring, Q-tip.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERASteps: Fill the pie tin with enough milk to completely cover the bottom.  Add several different colors of food coloring to the center of the pie plate,  Dip a Q-Tip in dishwashing detergent and then touch the Q-Tip to the center of the pie plate.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAHere’s what we learned:  Milk has vitamins, minerals, protein and fat.  Mixing detergent with milk causes a chemical reaction to occur.  The soap molecules race around the milk trying to catch up with the fat molecules.

SplatDivision 10 created these  adorable pictures of Splat the Cat.  First, we used black paint to make a silhouette.  Next, we dragged a fork outward to mimic Splat’s spikey fur.  Then we added paper details. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

It is fun to have fun
But you have to know how.
Dr. Seuss

Division 10 has been having a lot of fun reading all kinds of books about cats.  We have been learning how authors create interesting or “colorful” characters in their books.  Pete the Cat is one of our favorite characters because he never gets flustered no matter what.  The Cat in the Hat has so much fun, but he always cleans up after himself.  We also love Chester, Splat the Cat, Bad Kitty and Skippy Jon Jones.
