greeneggs

Division 10 loves this book.  We like the crazy rhymes.  We also like how Sam-I-am is so persistent. He never gives up, and in the end, the other man gives to Sam’s pestering.  He tries the green eggs and ham, and is surprised to find out that he really does like them.  We decided that the message of this book is to take risks  and try new things because you never know what will happen.  Here we are cooking and eating some green eggs. Oobleck

51Aj9mJ1PAL__SY344_BO1,204,203,200_It is Dr. Seuss month and Division 10 has been reading lots of his books.  One of our favorite is  Bartholomew and the Oobleck.  It is a story about how a king wished he could have something new fall from the sky.  Down came Oobleck, a gooey-green substance that wreaked havoc on the kingdom until the king said he was sorry.

Division 10 decided to conduct a science experiment and make our own Oobleck.  Oobleck acts like a liquid when being poured, but like a solid when a force is acting on it. You can grab it and then it will ooze out of your hands. It’s very fascinating stuff and before too long we had our hands covered with it.  It was really messy, but it was easily washed away with water. All you need is 1 cup water and 2 cups corn starch.  We added a few drops of green food coloring. Try it at home![metaslider id=2552]

Math Time

Math looks very different than it used to.  The picture one might have had of math time was of children sitting quietly at their desks practising mathematical facts on their own.  We now know that children learn best when they can explore, play and engage in a lot of talk.  In Division 10, the children practice their mathematical skills through centres, games and puzzles.  [metaslider id=2514]
