Ms. Brandi taught Division 10 a lot about First Nations artwork. She told us that the traditional colors used in paintings are red, white and black. We also learned about the traditional shapes used (circles, ovoids, split-u, s-forms and u-forms). Can you find these shapes in the painting of the Raven by Bill Reid?
We decided to make our own paint in the old way. First, we crushed charcoal with rocks. Then, we added oil to form a paste. Lastly, we tried to recreate the traditional shapes. It was messy, but it was so much fun.
