Mystical Stories!

book 8 book1 book2 book3 book4 Book5 book6 book7Thanks Emily M. and Reanna for coming up with our Bulletin Board title and for helping to put it up.  The students were very enthusiastic writers completing their mystery stories.  With several writing tools in their tool boxes, the students were very motivated.  They wowed me with their creativity and their ability to implement many of the new skills they learned.  Division 5 then used the app Educreations on the ipads to record and display their finished products. Hope you enjoy listening to them.

Boys and Girls what can you say about each others’ stories?

Moving Poetry

poem

Hi Class,

I had a request from Brian to create a blog, so that you could share your moving poems!  I thought it was a great idea, Brian.  I uploaded them to a folder in my Dropbox (a place where I can upload/share files) and am able to share this link: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/jsqwyiku97z5vtx/hGcnLYjD0O

Now you can view each of the PowerPoint slideshows! Just select any file you wish to view and press download….just select “open” and do not save it.   All of you did such a tremendous job and worked very hard on this project.  They are all amazing!  Please post “stars” for  your fellow classmates!

Mystery Stories Recorded!! Listen to them!

mysteryDivision 4’s mystery stories are up and ready to be shared.  The children worked through the writing process remembering to add the special literary devices and adjectives  to enhance their stories while trying to appeal to the reader’s 5 senses.  The boys and girls proofread, self-edited, and peer-edited their work before creating their awesome illustrations and book cover.

To incorporate the use of technology, each student used the Ipad app, “Educreations” and audio taped themselves reading a loud their own story and took photos of their illustrations.  Click on the links to hear their stories or if you have an android phone and have any free app that scans QR codes you can just scan the QR codes below.  If you have an Ipad, you need the free app “Educreations” and a free scanning app.

Here are some pictures of the children enjoying each other’s stories!

If you can’t scan the QR codes you can just click on these links to hear the stories too!  ENJOY!   : )

How to Make Your Writing More Fabulous

writingDear Students,

You have been working on a planning page for a mystery story you will begin writing.  We talked about the elements of a story (protagonist, antagonist, setting, plot, character traits, problem and solution etc.) and several literary devices that will certainly add more pizzazz to your stories, poems and descriptive paragraphs.  Boys and girls please tell me am example of each device you have learned to share with everyone.

Artwork

Hi Everyone,

I just wanted to let you know I posted your pictures of your stunning fall landscapes for you to share with your families.  You can view them on the Art Gallery page.  I hope your families will enjoy seeing your work on our blog, since we haven’t been sending your artwork home.  Please let your parents know that you have started collecting your artwork and some writing pieces, which you are compiling into a memory book.  Your book is like an invitation to your readers to come to a “Thinking Party”.  It will be completed and taken home at the end of the school year.  I am hoping you will treasure your work and keep it for many years to come, so you can remember what you were like when you were in Grade 4 or 5.  : )

White Jade Tiger

Division 5 has started reading “White Jade Tiger” written by Julie Lawson, a teacher turned author of more than twenty books for young readers. Based on actual events in the Fraser Canyon during the building of the CPR, it describes the experiences of Chinese workers as the main character, 13 year old Jasmine, time-travels to Victoria’s Chinatown of the 1880s. With her new mysterious friend, 16-year-old Keung, they travel to the Fraser Canyon where they search for his missing father who, 3 years earlier, had left China for “Gold Mountain” with a jade amulet from ancient times that carries a curse.

Dear Students,

From Chapters 1-13, please post a quote from the book or short summary of an event and your reaction/response to it. (Remember to explain using multiple sentences.)
