Student Votes

This term, we are learning about our parliamentary and democratic institutions in Canada. Students will take part in an election simulation (mock election) by listening to the candidates (peers) who are “nominated” to run for Prime Minister. They will require a political platform. The students will campaign to their own class only and ask for their votes. The classroom will be set up as a “voting” location and voters will mark their secret ballot to “elect” a Prime Minister.

Since this is a federal election year, students will also be researching about who the candidates are in their area, as well as their political platforms.

The main goal of this unit is teach the students about rights and responsibilities we have as Canadians, and help shape their future participation in our democratic voting process.
