February Friendship, Kindness and Care! – Enchelmaier's Division 10

February Friendship, Kindness and Care!

| Posted in Uncategorized

We began the month considering our inquiry, “what stories do the seasons share with us?”  We wondered if the groundhog would predict 6 more weeks of winter or an early spring.  We went to our imaginative Groundhog Weather School and became groundhogs for a day.  We predicted 6 more weeks of winter.  We talked about hibernation and used an ADST (applied design skills and technology) opportunity to create some groundhog dens.

We learned of the tragedy in Turkey and Syria when news of the Earthquake was shared with us.  Ms. Hussain let us know that the Turkish community was collecting items to send over to the devastated areas.  We knew that Words can also be powerful ways to support those in need.  So Division 10 created pictures, drawings and words of comfort and hope to send to the children and families that were challenged by the earthquake.

Through a round about way, it was shared with us that our messages of hope were received by the Turkish community right here in the lower mainland and just the knowledge that the children of Clinton cared, made the families so far away from Turkey, feel supported.  The letters became part of the instagram page, @helpturkeyvancouver.

Our Friendship Fun afternoon on Valentine’s Day, was filled with smiles, laughter and kind words.  Kind words also have been filling buckets as Room 15 students have been finding ways to uplift and support one another through being bucket fillers.

We look forward to continuing the rays of support and care as we recognize Pink Shirt day and walk with Pride and Recognition of all those that have needed allies when confronted with bullies that do not recognize the beauty of diversity!
