Fantastic Friday, May 22!

May 22Math Arrays/Talent/Social Story for Return To School!

I so do enjoy the number 22!  If you were to do your number sentences to the date today, what would you come up with?  I would do 11 + 11 = 22 as I also really appreciate the number 11.  I could also say 2×11=22!  Now, if that were in an array, it would be 2 groups of 11 or 2 rows times 11 columns equals 22.  The multiplication symbol (x) can refer to the words “groups of.”

Here are some arrays that I found in my daily experiences. I have a calendar, floor tiles and a light box.  I wonder what the multiplication sentence would be for these arrays?

The calendar is 4 rows by 7 columns which is 4 groups of 7 which is 4×7=28.  The month of February usually has 28 days but this year there were 29 days due to it being a leap year.  I just didn’t take a photo of February 1.

The floor tiles are 3 rows by 2 columns which is 3 groups of 2 which is 3×2=6. If we turned the photo around it would be 2 rows by 3 columns which is 2 groups of 3 which is 2×3=6.

The light box is 9 rows by 1 column of light which is 9 groups of 1 which is 9×1=9.  If we turned the lightbox on its side, it would be 1 row by 9 columns which is 1 group of 9 which is 1×9-9.

I hope you are enjoying working with multiplications and math arrays.  I can’t wait to see your Array Cities. I can’t wait to see you as a Math Super Hero on Tuesday.

For our Fantastic Friday, I would like to share with you some fantastic talent.  Nils sent in a video of his piano playing for the virtual talent show.  This term, we had Anna share her dance poses, Zahra share her love of science, Cara display her joy of cooking and many of you expressing your athletic endeavours during our class meetings.  Now, I would like to present Nils and his piano skills. Thanks, Nils, for sharing your talent.

Mystery Doug has some talent too!  Did you enjoy the Mystery Doug Live Lesson yesterday.  I wonder what the space talk was all about?  I missed it as I was with all of the Clinton Staff, learning about June 1 and our school re-opening.  I bet you are all wondering what it is all about. I am adding a link to a social story that may give you a better understanding of our “new, new normal.”  Your families will be receiving a survey that is to be answered by Monday, May 25 so that planning of your school days can begin.  Until then, take a look at the story shared below.
