MONDAY

  • Class discussion of last week’s essays and questions – On A Serpentine Road With The Top Down and Dark Blue Bike
  • Writing about objects – in class draft.  Please come during FLEX time if you missed this practice write
  • Silent reading if finished
  • HW: read the essay “I Was On Fire” – excerpt from the Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.  Annotate the text – see instructions in handouts (The Discrimintating Reader”.

TUESDAY

  • Memories of People – Spoken Word Poem – For My Grandmother – by Phil Kaye
    • Note how he takes his grandmother’s comment: “funerals are like birthday parties, except better” and carries it throug the entire poem
  • Read the essays, “I Was On Fire” (yesterday’s reading). “Let It Snow”, and “All Parents Are Cowards” (R)
  • Complete questions for discussion on these stories – “Memories Of People Essay Questions – Walls, Sedaris, Christie” (see handouts)
  • H.W. – Finish the questions and be ready to discuss them tomorrow.  Read your lit circles novel

WEDNESDAY

  • Finish discussing the questions from last day – hand in to be marked
  • In Class Writing – Memories of People
  • H.W. Choose ONE of your narrative paragraphs to revise and submit on MS Teams (due Monday).  Check criteria to see that you have included all elements. Finish the first 1/4 of your lit circle novel for Monday – complete the intial impressions sheet so you are ready to discuss the book with your classmates.
