Happy National Paper Airplane Day!!!

Tuesday, May 26th

Dear Division 8,

Paper Planes, Paper Airplane, OrigamiCan you believe that there is day to celebrate the paper airplane!

It is believed that after the invention of paper in 500 BCE, paper airplanes started showing up around the world. Even Leonardo Da Vinci used parchment paper to design his models for manned aircraft. Orville and Wilbur Wright were known to study paper aircraft extensively before they made their first historic flight on December 17th, 1903.

National Paper Airplane Day is a day to recognize the accomplishments of our first aviators but even more so, it is a day to create the best paper airplane possible and send it skyward.

The practice of constructing paper planes is an example of origami, the Japanese art of paper folding. For more information about origami, check out this link:  https://kids.kiddle.co/Origami

Please watch the following video:

After watching the video, please answer the following questions in the comments section below: What did you learn about how planes fly? What new information did you learn?

YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE YOUR OWN PAPER AIRPLANE and sell it to a Toy Company!

Here are the details:

  1. You can make any model you wish – use the video for inspiration!
  2. Name your paper airplane.
  3. Decorate your plane, practice, and make changes until you feel great about your airplane!

DONE:

Airplane is completed and you are ready to SHARE (‘sell’ your plane) with Ms.Binng during our Friday class meeting! Keep that airplane safe until Friday!

Here’s your PE video for today! Remember to get active and do those moves…in the comments section write one word that describes how you were feeling during the Zumba dancing. For example: sweaty, hot, fun, happy

Head over to Microsoft Teams for your math for today!

Have fun!

Ms. Binng

  1. Your hand pushes the paper air plane then it flies so the air pushes forward. The push is called thrust. The wind is blowing on top of the air plane. The harder you push the longer it goes. The bottom of the air plane has more lift. Bigger planes need bigger wings

  2. There are forces that push the air plane and they are differ one helps it go forward and its called thrust the other one helps it flout it is called lift.

  3. When you throw a paper airplane it dose not go strate all the time. It all was falls to the ground like all paper airplanes. When your throwing a paper airplane in a windy day, the wind will push on top of the paper airplane. When you throw as are as you can it will go longer then be for. The top of the paper airplane it will go down at the bottem it go’s up. A bigger plane needs bigger wings.

  4. I learnt what thrust means and what lift means. How the plane moves forward without falling to the ground.

    One word: BANANA!

  5. I learned that when you push the paper airplane forward it creates thrust. and if you throw it hard enough it will create lift.

  6. I learned that when you push the air plane it makes thrust. Thrust is the force that pushes air planes of all sorts to fly. In this case your hand is playing the thrust the harder you push farther it goes.

  7. I learned that when you hold and push it into the air if you do it outside the wind will push it farther into the air. If you do it inside you push it the plane will make a trust.
That thrust is the force is the one that pushes it into the air then it flys. The harder you push the thrust pushes it even more.

  8. So the air pushing down on the plane is reduced by the forward thrust so the harder you throw the farther it goes

  9. Hi: Ms: Binng.
I love to make the paper airplane! is awesome and perfect I really really really love to make paper airplane!!! if you see my paper airplane everyone will go WOW! and most paper air plane only go’s forward. But mine can turn right and left. And I learned that paper airplane is moving by air. That’s why name is airplane!

  10. I made my airplane named Shahid Jet, it flies with the air pressure called thrust.
I felt active by zomba dance
